Just started skating a few weeks ago and none of my friends are interested enough or have the time to take it up with me. Don't worry I'm not typing through tears about it, but I wanted to see if anyone lived near me; I'm in Sussex County around Andover township. I have a car so I will drive if you have a really nice mellow run near you. Let me know, but I can't do anything even remotely fast or I will really injure myself and that's not good. But if you're down to laugh a lot and answer a few questions I might have about my new obsession while we're cruising, just tell me when and where.
Whats up New Jersey!!! I'm posting up an event that I run 2-3 times a year... Some of you have heard of it, while others not. Its The Jersey Jumpoff!!! Details below. Hope to see lots of skaters there!!!

Hey Longboarders!!
That time is here again!! The Jersey Jumpoff...!!!! This event seems to get better every time it comes around!! Here's the lowdown on the theme; Summer Madness... listen to the song by Kool and the Gang and you'll begin picture what I'm talking about. This will be a MIDNIGHT SKATE, that will end sometime when the sun comes up, or when your legs feel like they're about to fall off!!!! This is the first of its kind in Jersey... so all are welcome to help create this great night! Here are the details....
What: The Jersey Jumpoff; Summer Madness!! A come-as-you-are longboard adventure!! Seeing the New York skyline as a constant backdrop the whole way through! Many hills, great sights... and awesome people to skate with!
Where: North Jersey; in particular: North Bergen, West New York, Union City, Weehawken, and Hoboken.
When: Saturday Night, August 11th at the approximate time of 11:59pm will be the meet-up!
Why: Because New Jersey Rocks!! Simple enough! Also, because this area has some really nice hills. We will be skating the famous "Empire Drop" hill which leaves you at the foot of the Hudson River looking directly at the Empire State building! As well, about 3 to 4 other really nice hills that you can bomb out or just carve em up for some great skating!! Most of the New York skaters have only heard about this area ... only a few have actually witnessed it. Now is your chance! Bring your slide-gloves, cones, bongs, beer, and whatever else makes you wanna skate the night away! The Jersey Jumpoff comes when it wants to... No one knows when the next time will be!!
How: We will meet at MIDNIGHT, by the North-East corner of the Port Authority building on 42nd Street, directly across the street from the Laugh Factory. Just look out for people with longboards. From there, we will take a $2 van ride in Jersey which takes about 15-20 minutes. Once in Jersey, we'll get off on 70th Street in North Bergen and take it from there! We'll hit the 1st hill right away, and from there skate through West New York, and Union City and see NYC from a different angle, and end up at our 1st stop of the night; "Empire Drop". From there I do have an idea of what to do next... but from what I've learned the last time is that nothing is set in stone, so we'll just see what becomes of the night as we go. Plan on skating the whole night till the sun comes up with some really awesome people!
For those in Jersey coming out to the area: Meet us at the 1st stop of the night "Empire Drop"; technically called Pershing Road:
We should be arriving at this location sometime around 1am
On the way back to NYC, you can either get a $2 van back to 42nd Street. or take the Path train ($1.50) back into NYC at various stops along the way; Christopher St., WTC, 9th, 14th, 23rd, or 33rd St. or you can take the NY Waterway Ferry back to 23rd/West Side Highway ($5.50 one way).
The Jersey Jumpoff is always a great event... no races, prizes, or vanity. Just a huge session that takes a life of its own. This is an open invite. So bring yourself and a friend or two! This Midnight run is for the thick-skinned-coffee-caffeine freaks who usually don't fall asleep right after SNL!! Make it out and DO SOMETHING AWESOME FOR A CHANGE!!!!!

We're workin' on a slalom race for Roctober - real low key, like our last one. And there's a great concrete skatepark in Sayreville which won't be THAT far away. Shoot me a pm when you get settled in

Ton - I'd slide, but you guys would have to teach me.
Smirk - we've all kinda been slackin' about tryin' to set up sessions, we'll see if we can correct that. I've mostly been ridin' roundwall and cones lately, but I'd be down to do some cruzin'.

Its just the final one for the year. I don't throw Jersey Jumpoff often because its supposed to be a special thing. The skating is so awesome... you HAVE to come out when there is a Jersey Jumpoff. The event is building steam, and more n' more people are starting to get stoked about the event! Hope to see you out there!

The next one is like in May 08'. Just when it starts warming up again.
Its too hot for me. Around 85 i think. We need some fall weather. Oddly enough I skated in 90 dgree and plus weather the whole summer without ift feeling too hot.
sweet Ill be there for the next jumpoff, I was home for the last one but I'm back at school and will definitely be in. I found another sweet hill in union city by the elevator that you can take back up.
someone start a session near the shore...yes this is a poor excuse to go skating with people but im board no one here is fun to longboard with here they are all afraid to do any descent hills so someone please come skate with me im getting desperate ha
