Salt on the roads in NYC is freaking me out; it's everywhere. And it hasn't even really freakin' snowed yet. A few weeks ago I scored a FTC street deck (complete) for $20 in San Francisco from some semi-pro kid skating at city hall who needed cash, bought it just so I'd have something to cruise around the city on since I couldn't fit any boards on my trip. So, lately it's become my trash/rain deck. Good thing, since after just a week here the bearings are freakin' shot and salt has covered the deck, top and bottom.
GOT BALLISTIC?
On a more positive note, my $38 Ebay find -- a Joe Rocket Ballistic racing jacket -- arrived in the mail today, with matching gloves that I'll turn into slide gloves. The jacket is lightweight mesh for spring/summer, and has shoulder and elbow protection plus a cushioned spine guard. SO, if I fall blazing through the city at 12 miles per hour, I'm thinking I'll be alright.
i live on LI and i was wondering if central park was nice to ride out on.
Come to prospect park....it's wayyyy better...much smoother pavement and less people and IMO a funner set of hills......when you come out let me know....I will show you around and I am sure Ned and others would be up to session.

central park is a little rough (pavement, pedestrians, horse sh*t)) but it's an ok run -- a 6-mile loop with a few mellow hills. we have the central park longboard race every spring which is fun.
there will be some guys going out this weekend to central park to skate during the snowboarding event. i think Longbord1 might come out from Long Island, and Jam would probably come out too. it's an easy ride on the LIRR into Penn Station I think. let us know if you feel like skating the loop and we'll meet up with you.
