Any Long Island/NYC beginners?
I'm looking for some people to roll with...maybe some people just starting out like me?
I live in the Rockaways but I am willing to travel. And is *anyone* even remotely close to my age? I'm 34. I look and act 19, but that's not the point. LOL!!!!!!!!
If you stand for nothing, you'll fall for anything....

Re: Any Long Island/NYC beginners?
Cheers!
There's plenty going on in the area . . . but why limit yourself to cruising with beginners? All of the more experienced folks I've met since I got back into this about year ago are into sharing the stoke and helping you learn.
I ride in Prospect Park in Brooklyn. There are some mellow hills there that are excellent to learn on. On any given weekend day I always bump into one or two other longboarders there. Let me know if you ever head over this way.
Most every Friday night the Earthwing crew runs a great RIP in the park with people sliding, bombing, slalom sometimes. Tune in to this thread for info:

There's also a really nice crew to roll with out on Long Island:
New York, Long Island Garages

Word? My friend Jen lives in Prospect Park, and she recently started longboarding, too. I guess I felt stupid cruising with a lot of experienced people, being that I'm just starting out - but you make an excellent point about rolling with people who actually know what they're doing. I think that I would like to come down to Prospect Park and see what's going on. I'm going to check out the thread you linked me to....

Excellent....where do you go? I got shooed away from Long Beach tonight after 2 hours. I guess I should have been grateful for the 2 hours of peace and quiet until they came and told me to leave....

Hey, come out and skate friday! Everyone who is there is supportive, and fun. I promise you will learn a few things, and skate away feeling like you can pull anything off. We are just a bunch of skaters too old to care what anyone thinks. Call me if you have any questions. 347-623-3421 Take the f to 15th street, enter the park, and hang a right on the loop - we will be on the hill around 8-8:30
Brian
