Re: Madison County Gravity Fest VI
I don't think racing the am speedboard after only a few hours of practice is really fair to those competitors. There are going to be a lot of people in that class, many of whom will be fairly new to speedboarding and it seems like it'd be dangerous to have them racing right after they start skating the hill.

Looks like there will be tech inspection the morning of the race.
BUT if you are coming down for the event, I seriously suggest coming down Friday afternoon. Get teched earlier (save waiting in line sat morning) and participate in the parade. It isn't an enormous parade, but it is still a parade.
The parade is run on the main road through town. NOT the race road.
I don't have the greatest pics of the parade since I was IN the parade.
Here are some pics from the past two events:

The parade route is fairly short, and after a short uphill section is fairly flat. It would be AWESOME to see 50 guys skating through town!

Great input about the schedule, Justin. I would like to see Speedboarding moved to Sunday as well simply due to the sheer number of competitors who need to make as many practice runs as possible. ESPECIALLY the AMs.

Re: Madison County Gravity Fest VI
While there can be many differing views of practice for an event I will give you a little history of my experience and my view: I have been competing since the age of 13 and turned pro at the age of 17, as for speed I am a three time world champion gravitybike racer having competed all over the US against the best, some I beat and some beat me, it's racing. Attending major race events you are there to COMPETE against all others in your group with the skills you bring to the event, a race is a contest of skills. Practice exists for each competitor to familiarize themselves with the course they are racing, especially in high speed contests the main concern is being able to safely navigate the course. Each rider should take the first run under caution and moderate speed to learn the course particularly the turns- direction, radius, camber, slope and possible dangers such as pavement condition, markers and boundries. Subsequent runs, when allowed, should be used to gauge the speed in which their abilities will allow them to safely navigate the course, choose their lines and where they can and should not make passes based on their knowledge and ability to execute their own skills. Safety is the main objective, in any competition your lack of ability to safely navigate the course WILL be cause to remove you from the event, like said before it is a skills contest not merely a contest to see who has the balls to stay on their board from top to bottom and get there the fastest with no regard to who they injure in the process whether it is them OR someone else.
Many of the events I have raced in we were allowed TWO practice runs, that's it! That is all that is needed to be able to put your EXISTING skills to work on the course you are racing. Again, show up to a race to use the skills you have and compete against others and see how you stack up against your fellow competitors. The top riders in each class are BRINGING the ability to prove why they are considered top riders, very rarely do the winners they learn those skills he used to win that day on that day.
That is my view on practice before a race.
On the other hand I know all to well these events are expensive for the competitor and in our sports we do not get many chances to ride on courses with no cars, hay bales in place in case we misjudge our abilities, EMT's to back up those cases & many other friends who share the same passion as we do. THAT is the reason I set up the program to allow for more ride time to be able hone those skills we already have and if things go right to learn new ones, some may get the chance to do this before they race other will have the chance to practice the area that they made mistakes during the race. Either way each rider will get the chance to race AND improve their skills.
MCGF is a race so come prepared to race.

No one cares about luge, so why would that be last? They're all a bunch of LUGERS.
HAHAHAHA, puns suck.

Re: Madison County Gravity Fest VI
if only like 1 or 2 people signs up for something (like dirt surfing or something along those lines) can it be cut from the schedule?

Re: Madison County Gravity Fest VI
It says junior racers must have a Parent or Guardian present.
Will there not be a waiver so that everyones parents do not have to come?
I know my parents and the parents of others probably were not planning on hanging all weekend...
Also what does our "racing number" mean?
Do we make this up, or is it assigned
Or do we use IGSA numbers?
-
Re: Madison County Gravity Fest VI
Racing numbers will be assigned at the event.
Liability Waivers will be available online and they will need to be signed by a parent or legal guardian and notorized, no need for them to be present. No need to worry about having the waiver right now, must have to present at check in on Friday or Saturday morning.

That would be awesome!
It would allow the riding to be more spaced out to keep everyone involved
Gets my vote for sure

Re: Madison County Gravity Fest VI
Another suggestion. This year instead of those numbers that we had to duct tape on can we have cloth wife beaters or something? I don't want to be duct taping those numbers to my leathers because the duct tape destroys them.

Re: Madison County Gravity Fest VI
Well I just found out about all this...my ten cents: Neil will do a hell of a job and this will be another awesome race. Kludy is the man and I agree with that but I think I'll be fine with anything because a weekend of downhilling with all these friends is the best. The real question is what is this about 3 other races? Come on man details....also the gsi site is down and they had a lot planned for this year, are they out now and not doing anything this year?
