Default Long Island Skatepark

There will be 2 meetings about the funds ( $60,000,000.00 bond issue ) that the Town of Oyster Bay has to preserve and improve their parks. 1st- Town of Oyster Bay town hall, 3/4/08 at 7:00 p.m.. 2nd- Majorie Post Park, Massapequa, 3/6/08 at 7:00pm. It would be good to have some skaters show their concerns about getting some of these funds allocated to get a concrete skatepark. I was told that they have interest in a park in the Bethpage area. I feel there will be alot of people showing up at the meeting from from various structured sports to seek improvements to their fields. We should show that there are many skaters that should benefit from this fund also. Since skatboarding isn't a structured sport, we need to show the number of people who have an interest in this. It will also be easier for the powers that be to direct funds in that direction if its justified by the number of people that it would benifit. They might be criticized by other sport groups. PM me for more info.

I might call in sick from work to attend one of these meetings.

No worrys. There will be other meetings. Those 2 worked out OK. I'm going to need to get a data base ready so I can inform people of the next meeting, if community involvement is needed, etc. Keep watching. I was kind of disappointed at the response to the thread. I thought that more SFers would be into it. Maybe the winter is killing the stoke.

Definately keep us informed about upcoming meetings, Mike. Unfortunately, I had to work and I couldn't call out due to recently having a month off for jury duty. I definately want to try to make the next meeting, though. We all need to be apart of this and make sure they do it right. It's about time we have a local concrete park, especially since gas prices are going up another 40 cents next month.
