Since there are a bunch of threads coming up about Harriman, I figured I'd make a Harriman official thread because with summer just around the corner, the popularity of downhill skateboarding at this state park will be on the rise. Hopefully we will see an outlaw here within the next month, as well as a camping trip I would like to coordinate, since there is a campground right next to probably the sweetest hill in the park.
Anyway, here are some pics from a Sunday sesh. Me, my brother Bryan, (longbaordskillz97), and Serge (alpha)
Start of the trip
The near 2 hour ride up
Thank God for an Ipod
Busting out some tunes
Finally here
Serge
Me getting ready to go
Hopefully it will stay closed for a while
Searching endlessly for service=fail
The bottom of the hill. Probably hit low to mid 40's easily
the quiver
me and my brother
surge again
Thanks to Serge for letting me use his armor, and giving me that extra boost of confidence, and ability to push my limits even further.
The pictures we took while speedboarding came out blurry, but we met up with a guy who took a bunch of pictures for us on his new Canon, which came out great. I will post them up as soon as I get them, since what's the point of a thread with no pics of us in action. ( I have video as well)
As for the outlaw, I agree with worldrider, we should plan it within the next few weeks, hoping the bridge remains closed.
Also I am working on plans for a camping trip, since there is a campground right at the bottom of the hill. I spoke with Connor and Serge so far, and they are both up for it. A couple days of skating and having a good time is just what I need with school out. Should try and get this in early June.
More pics and video up later.
Enjoy
Chris

Warning: This is a skateboard. You assume all risks and liabilities associated with its use, including but not limited to stoke, gnar relapse syndrome, and hot chicks staring at you like you're cool or something.
I'm pretty sure this hills outlaw shouldn't be up to you.
Nick found the hill and is much better prepared to create an outlaw, if there is any.
The fact that the hill is only about 40 tops and maybe a 1/2 mile long doesn't make it a great for a race.
Plus you really show your immaturity when you bring your little brother who is wearing nothing but a half shell and knee pads and bombing down a hill way out of his skill level.
Leave the outlaw planning to the experienced riders, and to the person who found the hill.

His brother was wearing knee pads, elbow pads, slide gloves, a helmet, and a chest pad.
We made sure he took it easy, he didnt want to do anything big anyways and we wouldnt let him.
Get this straight, the hill doesnt belong to the person who found it. Got it? The fact is that the "experienced ones" aren't doing anything. And all you are doing is b!tching and moaning so go play tony hawk on your xbox and stop bothering the people who want to do stuff.

If you were actually planning a race you would realize how much planning it takes. Who the hell is going to drive up to a hill that has like 3 sweepers, is 40 mph max, and is 1/2 mile long. This hill isn't even race worthy.
If it wasn't for nick you wouldn't even know about this hill. So give him some respect and let him have priority.

And how do you know the kids skill level, have you seen him skate? No you haven't, he's a fine skater. When I bomb hills, I wear a half shell kneepads and slide gloves, who cares?

Use your brain, a kid that age does not have the control or the experience to tackle a 40 mph hill.
IDC if he is a child prodegy.
Well......he did I don't really mean to flame, but dude you've never seen him skate, how do you know what he can handle. It just annoys me that you are judging this off his age and not by his actual skill.

I'm not the one planning the race. OK? Do you have gps to verify that "40 max"?
I went camping there a few years ago, so I do know about it. I didnt skate back then though
MJ thanks for the support, but its not even worth arguing with this guy. He assumes he knows people. Assumes. That is all

Again, I am not into the whole "racing" thing so you're preaching to the wrong choir.

Ya if enough are made then when you search "Harriman" on google these threads will come up. Eventually the wrong people will find it and no skateboarding will be allowed.
And better yet they wont even have to look for us because we will have told them everything about when/where we will be.
That's awesome, but he is a risk in his own right. No offense to him or his ability.
Longboard1, when we were there, he took the hill very carefully. Little by little he would move up, amd by the end of the day he was taking it from the near top with us, and did fine. I know he is 11, but his skill level is pretty high. If it was showing that he couldn't handle the hill, then I wouldn't let him take it from anywhere near the top. He may be 11, but he's still the one who taught me and mjkam to do a lot of slides, and its not always just him learning from us. That hill IS within his skill level.
Thanks anyway for the concern lb1 I guess
As for an outlaw, I don't see what's the big deal. Many people complain about how the east coast is dead, and how there are no races, so I figured an outlaw would be cool. Riding the hill is only part of the fun. I was planning also a bbq, and getting to know other riders is a great thing in itself. I bet you would attend lb1, no matter how much you speak against this race. Nick told me the same thing, about how he found the hill and how its basically his, so wtf, why not rename it to nick ledwitz state park. Sounds so inviting.
(I camped at harriman too alpha, we should go one day)
I don't know why I'm being flamed for trying to get an outlaw going, I am even working on a permit, which would mean the ra@ce would be mid july most likely. So far lb1 and world think what I'm doing is stupid, so lets see if they attend or not.
Lastly, longboard1, you complain about us not being safe and my immaturity, when you would prefer to race on a hill, which going by world, can hit 60. Going near 60mph on a hill with traffic is pretty dangerous. World told me how great it felt seeing cars speed by you through blind turns in opposite lanes, so what if you mess up. Meeting a car at 50mph isn't fun. The hil I rode was closed, and saw very FEW cars, which came from behind us.
All in all,I just want to have a good time skating, and meet new people
