Default Dh spots in Manhattan w/o cars?

Been trying to get into DH lately. The only decent hill i know of is the Great Hill in central park on 106 or something on the central park ring. So, getting pretty bored with that, any Manhattan riders can drop some knowledge on some solid DH hills in manhattan with out cars??

I don't know which part is funnier- the "without cars" or "dh spots in manhattan"......

but really, theres some hills in the bronx and if you cross into jersey theres lots of hills close to the water. Check out the jersey jumpoff if adam decides to do it again.

There are some hills in central park, but you probably need leathers and a fullface.

Yeah, the guy who bombed both hills on his humu at the CP race was totally geared up.

Are you talking about the "wrong way" hill in Prospect? Faster than the Rip hill, I think. Off hours, that's the best I've found in the city. Heading there now and praying for no bikers....

thats maybe a slightly better hill than the right way hill. i was referring to the latter. i used to skate the wrong way one till i encountered a bike gang at 11.30pm on the weekend a month ago. this was at the very end. i was going like 30, thought they would get out of my way, and this one guy cut me off at the last possible second. it was a miracle i dint fall. and i would have gotten crushed. so because of that, i just skate the right way now.

the wrong way hill in cp is pretty good, i dropped in at the top from a path on the right if you are walking up it. very blind but not too shabby. even at 5am though i see people in that park.

I love the wrong way Great Hill, but I don't skate it anymore unless its winter and I have some sort of spotter, i've had my share of close calls.

The Bronx and uptown Manhattan also have some really good spots (by NYC standards) but for most of them you need to be able to saftey slide at least, b/c most of them are on side streets and have no run-out. The 1 train would be a good place to start out with, look around the Van Courtlandt Park area and down, just from the 1 train you can see plenty of hills surrounding it.

Just got back from Prospect, right way and wrong way. It is sketch (wrong way). I've had close calls with bikers and, once, a garbage truck . But you can see a long way around the fastest corner and it's sooooooo nice.

Very lite bike traffic tonight. Getting too cold for boys in tights?

Also Ninth Street. A sleeper hill. Not many cars even at 7:00pm.

the great hill is awesome, see at the end of the hill (going the wrong way of course) theres a passage into the northwoods. Its totally sketchy with all the drug dealers and what not, just don't talk to them, and since the hill is in a C shape, u cut thro the northwoods, and boom, your back on the top, really scenic walk, really short.

I've been a couple times, but not for a while. Friday nights I've got my kids, half the time. And the other half I usually need to wine and dine my girlfriend. (Slowly looping her in to the cult--I'm gonna buy her a glider w/hybrids when MHM gets them on the site.) This Friday, for sure. I want to see the hill all crowded with the out-of-towners in for the race.
