Howdy - Got the new CW - I saw on another post you mentioned the article in CW about Longboarding in Finland.
This is SO COOL - I have yet to read the article, but I am SO STOKED there is a scene in Finland.
Here's why - my FAVORITE band in the whole entire world is from Finland. They are called ApocolypticA - and they play heavy metal on Cello's. This music is SO incredible, and longboarding to cello metal is just the greatest thing on EARTH.
Have you heard of this band? I wonder if any of the Fins who longboard like this band. I am so into this band, I even started doing research on the country of Finland. Mainly to get a better sense of where exactly it is located in Europe, what the culture of the people is like etc.
Ever heard of the Rasmus? Their singer is on the latest ApocolypticA CD. He sings a song called Life Burns - it is SO AWESOME! I understand the Rasmus are one of the most popular bands in Finland these days. They however are more of a pop type band.
I am SO interested in the Finnish music scene, clubs in and around Helsinki, the concert scene, bands, music and Longboarding there.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated....

Seems to be a prttey good scene going on in Finland these days, and Steelduck has a website set up as well with their whole Longboarding club.
Seems like a great scene, with all the kids and guys and girls getting involved, like a big family scene. I'm sure Duck will send you a link to the site.
He also plays in a beand I think ( Duck, correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to rememeber you posting on Gravity a pic of your band a while back! ) so I am sure he can fill you in on the band scene over there.
Also look out for Mr Mellow on here and the Garvity Forums, he is also up in Finland as well.
I belive its snowing up there today so no sliding or downhilling for the Finns, but maybe they are hitting the indoor parks!!
Peace out and keep spreading the Global Message of Longboarding.

Hi guys, the scene is indeed pretty good in here. Lots of new guys started or showed up last summer and some of us are really active in Internet content creation. Next we're taking over the print media.
Here's the scan of the CW Finland article (with M.Brooke's permission): http://www.vakio.com/met/cw/
Hope you enjoi it and buy the mag. There's plenty of good reading in it.
To ConnLongboarder, those bands, in addition to H.I.M., are probably the most famous bands abroad at the moment. As everywhere, here are also plenty of small bands that I find more interesting at the moment.
Hello... I think the best guy to answer about the local underground music scene here in Finland would be Aleksi who Longboards with us. I will page him.
Way cool - thanks Steel Duck - I totally LOVED the sample of the Rujo I heard. I too LOVE agressive metal.
Can't wait to hear more about the metal underground in Finland. Are Apo certified rock stars there? Do they play big halls these days?? Theaters? Clubs?
I totally am comitted to spreading local heavy metal and hardcore from my state of Connecticut. Hatebreed is our most famous band. Others in the vein of this (and similiar to Rujo) would be 100 Demons, ViTAMiN F and Father Panic Riot Orchestra. <--- interested? do a search for their web sites and check them out.
Aleksi - talk to me? Ever meet Apo? Do they help support underground bands in Finland? What do locals think of them? Want to trade some CD's? Any of the above mentioned I have. Hatebreed obviously does well. 100 Demons have done several tours of Europe.
Are there ever any skate or Longboard events where bands play? I dream of being able to skate around and cruise to Apo - that would be just SO cool...
Aleksi - you around? Was hoping you would reply to this thread sometime this week. No biggy - but LOVED the stuff I heard of your band. Was hoping to grab a bit more info on the underground music(metal) scene in Finland (see questions in earlier reply).

Hi Conn, Sorry it took this long for me to get in touch, but I've had my head up my arse for a while 'cos we have a nice set of gigs coming up with Rujo and we had to switch our frontman in a hurry, because a bigger, recording metal band snatched our former one. So we've been training a new guy and trying to get things together. Luckily all seems very good now.
I hear you were interested in finnish metal scene, especially Apocalyptica & HIM. Apocalytica's gyus are total pros, and they first emerged playing old Metallica and Slayer tunes, and now have evolved to their own material, which is very nice.
HIM is probably the biggest international succes from Finland (Since Hanoi Rocks -ofcourse). The frontman Ville was already a pretty well known character before this band. He used to play Bass before his singing career. Everyone likes the guy here. I'll try to gather you some interesting bands from the deeper UG here. let's keep in touch.

Hi again. Are you ready for a flood of cool UG bands from Finland? Here's a pretty good list for starters. These are bands from Stoner rock to HC-punk to thrash to industrial. Check them out and enjoy!
