Longboarding Mt. Tabor
I was talking to a guy from portland and he said that Portland closes some road that is on Mt. Tabor. I was wondering if thats true. If it is I'd like to know what day it is so that my friends and I can do some DH/hard carving in a new place. The hills in Camas are getting a little repetitive since I've been riding them all spring and summer.
Do or do not, there is no try.

On wendsdays they close the whole park off to cars so both run one and two are closed off to cars with the exception of service vehicle.(Run one is closed off to cars at all times and run two is the route that people drive up to get the the parking lot that is right below the very top.)

Re: Longboarding Mt. Tabor
Be sure to check that the gate is open on Wednesdays on the top section before bombing it. The guards down at the pump house will open it for you if it isn't.
When it is closed shooting the narrow gap on the right side of the gate post can be pretty sketch at 30 mph as it leads straight into some potholed/rough pavement.

I will second this as some times it may cause some crashes when it comes to having to unexperiencely stop when the gates are closed shooting though the gate at full speed sounds downright scary.

Hey speed demon.
Camas has plenty of good hills, you just have to find them.
Maybe I'll run into up there sometime.

I've hit lots of rich neighborhoods...the road that parallels SR 14 and intersects 192nd AVE, and plenty more...the hill by Union High School...too many hills to remember.

will is right camas has great hills. but you have to have to look for them. an imagination for hooking up different downhill runs also helps. i have a run that takes me through about 4 neighborhoods, that I didnt realize till I forced my self until there was no more downhill.
did somebody say hills?

That's Brady I think. Goes from the top of Prune Hill to 192nd right at 14.
and if you go up the hill by union and then take a left at the light there's a crazy ass corner into some mellow bombing.
Or if you go up brady and hitl that 4 way stop intersection with 16th i think it is, take a right and then up the hill near the top there is an empty lot with like 2 or 3 houses and you can get some good runs on that. PM me if you ever want to skate. I'm always down if I'm around

I know exactly what you are talking about I think it has like a 2 -3ft drop in your drift, fun as hell.

Speedemon its a fun run, run 1 if you ride it all the way down to the bottom it has a sick hairpin, but run 2 seemed longer to me for some reason, plus when i was up there eastside longboards had their giant slingshot setup into a corner then a big straightaway, nice guys, thanks for sweeping the roads eastside! By the way im from eugene and ive only road it once but i hope to get up there again

I know this is an insanely old thread, but how safe is it to bomb down Tabor when it isn't closed?

Run 1 is closed to cars at all times.(There is always a chance for a car to be around the sweeper as maintenance is done there from time to time or the security cars doing there rounds.)
Run 2 is not really skated when it is not closed to cars as it is a bit narrow and rough in spots.

How fast is this run? Is it something a relative beginner that can foot brake ride on?

At the most around 30. If you are comfterable keeping it at a speed you can handle foot braking it can be done no problem.(My first time I dragged my foot most of the way down when it was wet.)

Re: Longboarding Mt. Tabor
ive heard a lot of good things about mt tabor and am planning on gettin out there to get some runs in but i have a few questions i was hoping some one who rides it often could answer. first off, i was wondering how fast it dries out, i treat my board like its sacred or something, and water is the devil. the weather hasnt been that great for riding lately but aparently the suns gonna be out fri and sat so i want to make the most of it. but if it takes a couple days to dry out then its gonna be a wasted trip. (tabor is a couple hours away from me so thats kinda a big deal)
also i was wondering if there was a map with the differnet runs marked on it somewhere on the net. i remember comin across a site that had somethin like that a while back but i havent been able to find it lately.
any help i could get would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Mt. Tabor is very well shaded and takes awhile but since the on Friday and Saturday are going to be cold Tabor most likely not be skate able, but you never know it could just be damp.
