Nobody needs a crew, just go skate.

Re: i need a crew
i don't need a crew to have fun longboarding, i do fine with that on my own
its just that when i ride with other people, i tend to push my bounderies a bit more.

I've only ridden with people a hand full of times... in 16 years.
You are right. Progression tends to accelerate when you have friends to critique with.

One of the truest things ever. Having people to push you to get better is always a good thing. I wouldn't be close to where I am now if I didn't have a brother to skate with every day. We each take steps ahead of each other, which causes us to catch up with each other. When one of us learns something new, the other picks it up right after. Plus, you feel less stupid when you beef in front of people if you've got a homey around!

Re: i need a crew
when i'm DHing on my own, i just think, "wow, i'm going fast" but when i'm DHing with other people, i think, "gotta go faster than him"

So true. It took me so long to learn how to ollie... I mean years. YouTube wasn't around and I didn't have skaters to hang with. I never saw how an ollie was done. Progression for me was pretty slow. I admit I suck when it comes to tricks. I know how to do many tricks, but I lack the technique, muscle memory and skill to land them. I just don't really care for tricks. The only need-to-know maneuvers are manuals, transitions, and shutdown slides. Everything else is just added sugar.

FOR SURE. I used to do street skating around 5 years ago. I would go out and skate with my friends and they were all way better than me, so they helped me learn the essentials. I only got as far as ollieing a 4 stair and learning to kickflip before I stopped skating to make time for high school soccer practices.
3 years later, my brother suggests we get some longboards to cruise around on. Two more years and both of us are throwing down standup 180s, stalefish slides, the works. If you've got friends, skate with them.
