Rain rain go away
So, I'm in Spokane, and it's rained everyday for the last month. I expect this during this time of year in Western Oregon and Seattle, but for f*cks sake, Spokane is in the desert. Stop raining already! I swear, I'm going to need to convert my longboards into boats if it keeps going. I'll be so pissed if it goes from rain to snow!
My Bigzigs or Big80s are the only wheels I can currently ride, everything else I can basically push my board sideways with how much water is on the ground.

Re: Rain rain go away
It probably isn't going to get much better until March or so...but there are nice days here and there if there's not a bunch of snow melting. I've driven thru Spokane many times this time of year and desert is not the type of weather that comes to mind.
Rain wheels! and maybe a board just for rainy days...i'm thinkin' of getting one and putting ceramic bearings in it.

EmptiMind, we here in the Okanagan are getting all the same rain (except less). It's actually pretty uncommon to have 3 wet days in a row here

Re: Rain rain go away
I've lived in Spokane for a few years now, and this is certainly the "rainy season" but this is ridiculous! Not a single break in a month. Usually "rainy" means we get two a week.
I've got Bigzigs, they're alright for rain even without tread cut in. Just don't want to use any of my boards. I had my FSM with me today because it was dry when I woke up, rode it to school, when I got out there was flooding. I had to paddle my way back home, then I promptly blow dried everything and cleaned my bearings. Don't know what kind of board I'd trust with rain, I'm paranoid of waterlogging.

I complain cause it's not suppose to be like this! I'd have rain boards and rain wheels and rain gear galore if I was expecting this biblical amount of rain.

hahahahaha, you probably have the right to be mad dude....
but remember that suffering enlarges the prize.. XD just think of the moment when you grab your longboard again and go around zipping curves and carving the concrete without the drifty feel of water... you gotta love grip!

Haha... To be completely honest, I want it to stop raining so I can slide my Corchia around... I just don't want to take it outside with this wetness. Winter is coming here soon, so I'll have snow on the ground in no time.
Yarg!
I'm going to need to get a kayak for now, and get a sled for later.

hey I-ve always had this question... we never get snow out here so... is it really impossible to ride on winters?

Depends on how much snow there is. Last year we had a few feet on the ground. It would've been better if I would've taken the trucks off my boards and just used them as snowboards. If the ground is dry, no problem. But that hardly ever happens. If the ground is at least plowed, it's sketchy! Imagine skating on water that really isn't water... It's ice. Think of throwing plastic wheels on a dropped board, and trying to skate through a puddle. That's what skating on ice is like.

Re: Rain rain go away
Oh man, FSM was probably the last board in your quiver you'd want to get caught out in the rain with. Unless you clear coated when you first got it. Actually, I think your Corchia may be the best bet for getting in the rain. Those things are sealed up so nice. Unless it's already got a bunch of scratch and grinds through the finish. We've even had rain/drizzle/wind non-stop for the last 38 hours. In your honor, I'll take my 08 Corchia on the street tomorrow. Who knows, I might even bust my first slide. (or my a$$)
... almost sprained my finger due to speed wobble (Fusrodah)
... wheels need to be round to roll well. (aloysius)

What wheels do you have on your Corchia? I was sliding that thing in my kitchen when I got it.
And yeah, that's why I took everything apart and took a blow dryer to it. FSM no good in rain. I didn't clearcoat it because I got it complete from Mark, and the grip was already on it. I've been meaning to at least do the bottom. Or just order a roll of mini-logo and regrip the thing after I coat it. Rustoleum you said?

Re: Rain rain go away
Yeah, Rustoleum clear enamel. I'd pull the trucks, run painter's tape around the top edge so 1/2 - 3/4" is sticking out from the edge of the board. I put pieces over the bolt holes on the top too. Then you can spray the bottom and also go around the edge pointed at about a 45* angle. you'll end up getting the entire rail but not overspray onto to the grip. It dries quickly. You can easily do 3 or 4 coats in an hour.
I've got slide A's on my 08. I haven't slid anything yet because I haven't tried. Damn knees weren't going to participate in dropping down for a coleman or something. Plus I know there's gotta be some fails on the learning curve and I've been a puss worrying about an injury that could interrupt the paycheck. Stinks when you get older and have a buttload of obligations and dependents. I wish I'd have gotten into skating in the carefree, hell bent for leather 20's.

Your FIRST slide? >_>
Wear shitty old jeans, knee pads.
EDIT: Ah, read next post. Yeah, knees are required for sliding D: I had problems getting into drop-knee too. And I still can't standy.. Been working on it. Seems a lot easier on a board with dual kicks and shorter wheelbase 'cause you can weight a foot that much easier, by standing over the trucks.

Hah, well, one tip I can give you with learning how to slide is, wear knee pads, elbow pads, a helmet, slide gloves with wrist pads, or wrist guards under, thick tear resistant pants, same type of shirt or jacket. Yep... The Corchia will go sideways with ease, specially on Slide-As, that's what I have. Vicious grip underfoot and Minilogo on the tip, the tail and the center. Makes it easier on my shoes when I try stupid flip tricks, but still holds me in when I'm sliding.
If you're safe about it, and don't try to catch yourself if you fall, the risk of serious injury isn't great. As long as you don't suffer from brittle bones. I've managed to pull off some crazy slides without my board. Haha. Knee pads are pretty much the coolest thing this sport has.
I got the Rustoleum for my Deeznutz. I had to sand and recoat the damn Krylon three times because it kept hazing. I've got three even coats on it now, and I'm going to Rustoleum the whole thing tomorrow. Probably do the FSM at the same time.

Re: Rain rain go away
I knew it'd been wet here. Weather guesser just confirmed it. It's rained 17 of the last 23 days and we got almost 3" in the last 36 hours. But now they say SUN tomorrow. Cool! It's to wet to do any yard work, too broke to make any roadtrips with frivolous spending. Damn... guess I'll just have to skate.
Got all the pads. Even got some wrist guards but they're a pita to take off. By hook or by crook, I'm busting that slide cherry tomorrow. period.
Yeah, that Rustoleum clear enamel proved to be the shiz for me. I've gotta get some more. I got that purple formica toecutter in yesterday. Got it painted but now it needs clear coated and then grip. I think it's getting another basket weave. I like the illusion it gives. Yours really tricks the eye. Looks like all the pieces are curved until you zone in and focus on a single piece. Nice job man.

Not any to write home about. Hate garages really, they usually have those stupid speed bumps which bottom out my drop boards, and the concrete is slicker than snot. I've drifted sideways for 10ft into a waist high concrete wall and almost went out the fourth floor of a garage. None that have good continuous slopes that aren't guarded. Actually, most of the garages in this area have security and cameras and gates....
@8ft Good luck! You'll pull off a slide no problem, then you'll realize you've been worried about nothing.
