Default Daddies Board Shop... are you kidding?

So I'm a long time lurker... and first time poster...

Perhaps I missed this somewhere on here from a previous rant... (I'm sure I'm not the only one that has had this thought)

So long story short... I made the trek down from Tri Cities Wa. to Portland Or. to check out what has been built up for me as the ONLY place to go in the PNW to get gear and check the new thing out... So I leave here early Saturday morning and make the 3 and half hour drive down there with hopes of purchasing a new Landyachtz Chinook. So following the faithful Google driving directions we arrive at the Daddies with a mind blowing look on our faces... "the places looks dark inside... "

ARE YOU F'N kidding me? Closed on a Saturday? WTF?

Total heart break, me and my homie had to drive the 3 and half hours back up pissed off and without new rides. Sad times for sure.

I'm guessing there is a really great reason that a skate shop would be closed on a Saturday... anyone know why?

    Thanks for letting me vent.
Hopefully I can skip a day of work and spend another SEVEN hours in a car to purchase a new play thing. (Ya, I like to try before I buy... and no one in town has anything other than Sector 9)

They were probably all snowboarding? Seriously though, I think Daddies online sales have become such a large portion of their total sales that they are letting the retail store wither away. You can see that they are even encouraging online ordering for local customers.

You should have gone down the street and checked out Rip City Skates though...

Hey man, it busts my balls that the local Korean restaurant is closed on Mondays but such is life. Some store owners have personal reasons they can't work on certain days, others just don't have the staff, and I'm sure other economic reasons exist - like really dominant online sales mixed with low demand on a certain day. I can't speak for Daddie's but you just gotta know the hours - always call a store or check their hours before making a long trek just to make sure! Plus, ordering online, you don't have to worry about hours just try a friend's gear before buying if possible.

Rip City Skate. It is a cool store not too far from daddies but they actually know what they are talking about. Most Portland riders shop at rip city, not daddies, for many reasons.

Ya, wish I'd have found them... I did come across Exit Real World... that place was nice... not much longboarding stuff... but a rad little spot. Does Rip City do the longboard scene? I'm fairly new... I've got a Sector 9 I got at Zummiez and I've fell in love with rollin' on this thing and now I'm looking for something a little more performance orientated... I've been looking and checking out reviews of the Landyachtz Chinook... would Rip City have something like that in stock to check out? or should I invest my personal time and gas money in the drive to Vancouver and see the shop first hand?

    thanks again

EDIT: this in from DBS on FB

    Daddies Board Shop
Sorry, sorry, I know. We were exhausted running 6-7 days a week for so many years. Even though we were closed on Mondays we still had to work for the online orders and something had to give for this family so we went for the customer service online and opted to be there Monday-Friday and be able to ship and answer phone 5 days per week. It sucks but our family life was all shop and no family so there you go.

Daddies would much prefer that Rip City was gone (and perhaps is actively trying to do so), so that they could stay closed every day and just field online orders. Support local shops, support Rip City.

Daddies does nothing for the local community. Rip City sponsors a few local riders along with all the local events in the NW. Rip City also has a good selection of boards. You may not of heard of them because they are fairly new.

Right on!!! Thanks for all the local knowledge... perhaps I should have signed up sooner and looked for a little local insight before making the trip down. Motion Board Shop eh? I'll have to get an address for that... I'm in Seattle a little more often than Portland, but I've got family on both sides.

Casual Industries for the win! hahahaha

If I'm gonna drive 3 hours to visit a store, I'm going to make damn sure they're open before I get in the car. That's all I'm saying.

Have you specifically asked them to help out the community, sponsor events, etc?
It may not be local, but Daddies is helping us out with our events here in Albuquerque.
They were very willing to help out too, all it took was a few emails.
