Maryhill Museums concern on "free riding" at maryhill
They Maryhill Museum is talking about shutting down the hill with speed bumps if we don't stop riding without a permit, that means no festival of speed. I think you all know what we need to do by keeping things "concealed"
heres a little conversation over on the eastside message board:
To all,
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Maryhill Museum has seen downhill skateboarders on the loops road and has seen many videos on You-Tube as well. I am just giving a heads up that we do not want to lose Maryhill. I know it is a dream road and every one wants to ride it all the time. The Museum is ready to shut it down to any further activities. This could include more locked gates on the road as well as speed bumps.
Let’s not get this road shut down forever. Do not post any personal video of outlaw rides on You-Tube. Please only post event related video.
Maryhill sees the message boards, websites, etc. So be wise and stealth.
Here is a copy of a message from Lee at Maryhill Museum to me. I was talking to him about spectator areas, pit area (getting it cleaned up and level). He responded and put this P.S. on the bottom of the email:
“P.S. There is some concern about the number of videos on U-tube showing longboarders using Loops Road without a permit. Please advise all groups and individuals you speak with that if this activity increases, the Museum may be put in a position where they will have to make it impossible for any sports activity to occur on the road.”
Thanks,

SPEED BUMPS!!! GOOD LORD!!! thanks for the heads up john. it's a shame that the museum would come down on the downhill community like that but we haven't been too stealthy either. it'd probably be a good idea to take a break from maryhill for a while. the last thing i'd want is to blow any chances for having races there (especially the world championship!).

Someone needs to tell the Canadians before they do their #### the rain tour. They already have a history of pissing off the locals. They could easily piss off every speedboarder in the United States!

is it a trash issue again? because they should at least have some reason for getting angry, but some people are really commited to keeping it clean, like when i was there dennis the mennis was going around the parking lot with a empty coffe cup picking up cigarrete butts so people seem to be keeping it clean

I think its more of a liability issue with the museum. Plus they probably feel upset about not receiving any money for us riding it. There are signs you know. Anyhow best to lay off until we see what happens. Thanks everyone.

Thank you for the heads up John. I think it's a good idea to leave "maryhill" out of youtube title names and tags from now on.
With that said, that really ####### pisses me off that they would actually go out of their way to keep people from skating, when I seriously doubt they have had any issues with boarders recently. If bikes and pedestrians weren't allowed on the hill, I wouldn't feel the need for special treatment to let us ride, but special treatment to KEEP US from riding is ####### bullshit. And I don't mean I don't think pedestrians and bikes shouldn't be allowed on the hill, I just think it is a ridiculous request that specifically longboards and luges stay off the hill.
I don't know if it's a case of don't understand = ban it, or if someone at the museum has some sort of prejudice against "extreme" sports, but I assume with how little of the world the people out there have seen that they just don't know what it is and have played the I'm scared, make it illegal card. And I actually don't have any problem with that, with how complex liability things are now a lot of the times the only way to cover your ass is to make sure everything is illegal, even if you don't enforce it. But "the Museum may be put in a position where they will have to make it impossible for any sports activity to occur on the road." is just someone going out of their way to be an asshole, that is completely unnecessary in regards to liability.
Yeah Casey actually got angry holy ####. I will edit the last couple paragraphs out in a little bit after I cool off.

thats exactly right.
we go there, do our little downhill thing, and clean up our mess before we leave.
if anything, we make the place cleaner than the pedestrains and tourists that go there and let their dogs take shits in the parking lot and leave their trash all over the place. They don't realize that we actually preserve it from litter and whatnot.
since when have we have had a probelm of destruction of the site?
if worse comes to worse I guess we'll have to not skate for the sake of the festival of speed, insted of them destroying it with speed bumps.
