WHEN: Sunday, April 6th, 9:56am
WHAT: This will be the annual Spring Cascade Slalom Collective Slalom race season opening event. There will be the tradition of the Revolution with BBQ with burgers, sausages, salads, drinks, and a handwashing station. Feel free to bring chips or extra burger/buns sausages/buns or whatever -Thanks
Oh, and there will be skateboard slalom riding as well. Per tradition of the Revolution, there will be 2 courses set. One will be big and open, fast and easy. It will be easy to check one's speed for beginners and yet possible for the experienced slalomer to hammer the turns and fly fast. The other course will be more technical, tighter "but not really that tight". Only one lane will have a timer so those who want to race in a jam format can do so and all others who just want to free-ride the other course can do so as well. Emphasis is to ride, have fun, eat and have a good event for the newbies and proletariate longboarder. Long live the Revolution.
OFFICIALITY: Per Salem Parks and Rec Dept, this is a "Drop-in unscheduled use of a municipal recreation facility"(also known as "outlaw" in some circles but we don't want to use that word here). Bring your your park or other decks in case we get told to leave and we'll go to one of the nearby famous Oregon skateparks. So far in the 4 years of using this hill it hasn't happened yet. Just remember to pick up garbage and not be nuisance to other park users and the parks staff will hopefully continue to welcome us. So far everyone has been great about this so THANKS!!!!! .
SCHWAG: Likely some SubsonicSkateboardy and LongboardyLarry-ish slalomy sorta stuff and maybe some other slalomy kind of stuff plus a half empty bag of leftover Redman chew.
WHERE: Bush Park, Salem Oregon. Place yourself onto Interstate 5 after locating Salem on a map. Go to south Salem(not south "of" Salem). Look for the Oregon State Highway Number 22. Take the exit and go WEST (Toward Japan), almost immediately you will notice you are on MISSION BLVD. Mission Blvd and Hwy 22 West are the same piece of pavement. Keep going 2.5-ish miles WEST, you'll wind around a little, go over an underpass, then go under an overpass, then soon you will see BUSH PARK ON YOUR LEFT(SOUTH- Toward the South Pole). Look for a Big track and field stadium, turn left into the parking lot, the Soap Box Derby Hill is right next to it on the right(West, Toward the Pacific Ocean) as you are facing the stadium. Park your car, put on your helmet and pads, grab your equipment(your skateboard, not your other "equipment") and go eat and ride.
If you want to be a BIG help, show up early with brooms and a LEAF BLOWER and help clean the hill.
OUT OF TOWNERS:
Motel 6
1401 Hawthorne Ave NE
Salem Oregon
(503)371-8026
Take I-5 to the Market Street Exit, go WEST for about one block west of I-5(but don't turn onto the ramp leading back onto I-5), then turn left/south onto Hawthorne and you should soon see it on your right/west. Call and reserve ahead since they often fill up fast on weekends.

Hey pavedwave, care to tell me more about this 24hour ultraskate?
looks like fun
man, i hope this still happens, the weather is looking Mighty Sketch, but we'll be keeping in touch with Poliwog and make the call for Salem by tomorrow. we've gone for it before in similar conditions and it turned out for a great day of skating.
the 24 hour ultraskate might be turning into 48!! -- meaning, to coordinate with Dave over in the UK, it's now gonna happen on June 14th, but we've already got mental momentum (a.k.a. gone mental) for doing this May 3rd, so we might just end up doing it twice. May 3rd will be a good 'warm up' skate for people who are kicking the idea around of actually going longer and farther in June, and just want to see where they are pace-wise, get used to the trail, and figure out how much to ride to prepare for mid-June.
anyway...
think DRY for Salem, we don't ask for sun, just DRY!!
and if you're Seattle area and still thinking of making Salem but don't have a ride or board or whatever, we're meeting at a Tacoma-ish Park n Ride early Sunday morning with extra boards, a van full of stoke and heading from there around 6:30--- drop a line!
and birdman, i think stryker's holding a slalom race late April or early May around Puyallup so there's still hope fo you

Hey Comrades, NOAA's National Weather Service is calling for 70% chance of showers through Sunday April 6th PREceded by likely rain the night before and showers possible in the evening.
So, I am going to look up the weather tomorrow (Saturday) whilst at work and make a decision Saturday morning hopefully by 10:30 am. ...
IF the forecast still calls for 70% showers(or something like that), I will be postponing the race and rescheduling for Sunday April 20th. I think this is likely going to be the case at this point but lets salute our pictures of Marx and Trotsky and do our No-Rain Dances and keep our fingers crossed but please don't try to hold your breath that long, I don't want any of you turning purple and falling over. Long live the Revolution!

James, what are you smoking man. What is it? Tell me. No, but seriously thanks for organizing and publicizing this. It's supremely hard to predict weather around here, and slalom just doesn't work on the wet. In fact, it's suicide. Also, I want to go, and I just couldn't make time this weekend, so I'm glad you've moved it out!

actually it's Paul "Pauliwog" Howard that organizes the Salem BBQ, it seemed the turnout was lower than usual, part of that's because the Norcal crew's holding an event the same day, so that took out about 6--8 people. but still not sure where all the locals are?!!
so anyway I'm just reposting his updates from the ncdsa CSA forum, the only thing we do is help sweep the course and sometimes set up the timing system. the rest is just eating, bombing the hill, and chillin. and eating. its literally the best event of the season for noobs as it's single lane jam format so you can "race" it or just learn to make the course, its all good.
