grease, duct tape, rain wheels and cheap bearings are your friend. Sometimes I think I like rain riding more that dry

Wd-40 was designed to loosen up rusted metal objects. However WD-40 isn't an alcohol-based product, it's synthetic and is very prone to attracting dirt. This means it doesn't dry clean like rubbing alcohol or even water does, and it will gather up dirt and dust and stick to it.

Spraying the bearings with WD-40 is pretty much just as bad as letting them rust.
Instead of WD-40 use a fat or oil based lube specifically for bearing. They will repel water, and keep the ebarings clean.
HAHA ha ha i made tha tmistake a long long time ago with my first s9 with stop setup. i didnt know any skaters and i was wondering why everything was so squeaky (i rode in the rain a good amount). oh well. i sold that board for super cheap and the new guy wont even know about the WD40 use.

Yeah We just ran the Bolinas Outlaw race in the rain... all day 20+RUNS no mercy...

We took our GMRs and 48 comps back.. cleaned the bearings and the wheels... then we took the decks out back and HOSED THEM OFF! They are high tech polymer Try that with Bamboo and Birch I promptly upon return to the shop ... cut sipes into a set of Big Zigs and set up a rain race deck for the team8)

Are ceramic bearings better for the rain? Or just certain types of ceramic bearings?

I rode my board today and it wasn't raining but the streets were still a bit wet. Got home and blow dried the wheels and lubed the bearings a little.

Here in the Northwest (especially on the coast) rain is a fact of life and not riding in the wet is going to seriously limit my riding time. So I need to figure out something.

Make sure the wood is sealed.

Use bearings with metal retainers and pack the full with grease. I use White Lithium Grease (not the spray can) on modified S9 GreaseBalls bearings.

    Make rain wheels.
How to make rain grooves in your wheels

I keep a sponge and some rags in my tool box. Dry it off when you get to work. Clean your bearings when you get home.

If you don't want to get wet, wear a poncho.

That's about all the advise. Oh yeah! If you wear glasses, wear a baseball cap to keep droplets from blinding you. I've put rain-x on my glasses too, but I wouldn't suggest it at all. It seems to make them "foggy" after a few days and the film is hard to clean off without scratching your glasses.

    Why the hate for WD40?
Speaking from experience i've used WD40 since 1978 and never
had any problems with it I clean my bearings with acetone
or iso-alocohol dry them and give them a spray i also have sets of SKFs
and KOYO bearings from the late 70s and they still work well and
they have seen nothing but WD40.Also i have never had bearing failure
    in my life
Athough i will say that in the winter months i usually pack my bearings
with grease.I run Bones Reds and Element thriftwoods

PS a tip for grease users get a pencil and scrape the graphite into
a small amount of grease verrrry smoooth true

    please feel free to argue
