Hey guys,
I'm pretty new to longboarding. Infact all of my friends are new to longboarding.
So we've pretty much scoped out all of downtown vancouver and the surrounding neighborhoods. And we are starting to get bored now.
Anyone know any nice mellow runs or places with some nice hills in the area that beginners would be able to tackle without gloves?
Portland isn't really a viable option for us since we don't have cars for the majority of us, so we'd prefer skating distance.
Anyways thanks for any help!
note: this is vancouver washington I'm talking about in case you haven't figured it out yet...
Well Right now a lot of us are just skating to skate. They prefer cruisng around and eventually getting to some boardwalking and stuff like that.
I personally already started working on sliding and tricks. My bud and I decided to try and finish the loaded challenge series 1 by the summer's end. But when all of my friends get together it's just time to cruise around and find some hills to carve, grab some food, then go carve up some more.
What neighborhood are you in? I lived in Cascade Park for a bit, check out McGillivray & Talton (the Bedford is on the corner). Its a fairly long run and if you can carve, you can hit it. Basically any cross street perpendicular to McG runs downhill towards the river.

I personally live up near Salmon Creek, the rest of my friends are in the historic downtown area next to the I-5 bridge.
Thanks for the tip about McG though. Are there any good times to get over there? That road is usually pretty busy if I remember correctly.
If you are at Salmon Creek, you should go up to WSU and check out the parking lots and the long access road down the back-side. We used to get a good size group of slalom racers up there on occasion for practices and then bomb down the road on the back side.
Hey sorry I wasn't more specific, the road to go down is Talton, but the top of the hill is at that intersection. Anything running parallel to Talton (130th, etc) should be good as well.

Yeah Talton is a pretty good beginner hill if your over on East Vancouver
there's a couple good hills around Prune Hill too which is like right out of the Vancouver boundary and into Camas which is where I skate alot.
but you should try and ride C-Tran or tri-met to Mt. Tabor in Portland sometime
It's a pretty managable hill and it's dang fun.
Plus they close off both roads on wednesdays so you only gotta watch out for bikers and dog poo
i agree with eskimo man if you want to experience more hills or make it too some tabor sessions learn to use the transit system. i plan on going to tabor this wednesday becuase sadly i have never been to an actual session so i hope to finally experience tabor while it is all closed to normal traffic.

agreed WSU is a blast! i like riding down the little bike trail from the main campus down to the bottom of the service road. there are some fun little hills over there, as well as the twisty hill in the main entrance (def need gloves and/or leathers tho)
