Moving to Portland, tips?
I live in Tucson right now, but I'm gonna be moving up to Portland in about 3 weeks, and I really don't know too much about skating there.
first, I'm gonna be building a new board after I get to Oregon and I'm wondering what shops are good there (I heard good things about a place called Cal's Sakte)
also I want to know what some good spots are. I'm living in a neighborhood called Mount Taber, so close to that area would be great
thanks guys

You just picked one of the best longboarding/skateing cities ever, imo. If your into DH Mt. Tabor has two good runs; also there is the west hills which have zoobomb/switchbacks. There is pretty much daily sessions all around the city. There is also two great shops around town (daddies board shop, and the mountain shop) Cal Skates is pretty cool too.
And get ready to ride in the rain in the winter, so buy some rain wheels, eastside longboards sells those.

Cals skates is a nice shop but, they don't have the longboard selection that places like daddies.(They have almost just sector nine decks, so if you are not looking for one that is not the place to check for that)
Mountain shop's skate shop is not there any more and there is a new shop called Rip City Skates that is going to open next week, that is ran by the person who ran the skate shop at mountain shop.(More info on rip city skates can be found on the pdxdownhill forum) Daddies is closest skate shop to Tabor, and don't be surprised to see alot of people ride eastside and subsonic decks as they are both great company's in Portland(Eastside's owner typically skates tabor regularly too.)

Re: Moving to Portland, tips?
Portland = Cool. Great hills, and the Burnside Skate Park is among the best in the country. Probably a good place to meet people. All types of skaters go there. You might want to invest in a good pool board to take advatage of it. Very flowy design. And yeah, home base for several great shops. If you are inclined to engage in chemical recreation, be VERY careful. Big undercover scene (at least there was back around 95). When I was there, I was still active in that department, and became an unwilling guest of the state for a while. But even that was cool because halfway through my "stay", I got t-ferred to a forest camp and got to plant trees in those beautiful mountains with some surprisingly awesome people. Oh yeah, skating. Ask around at the park about Dave Tobin. He's very well plugged into the scene, and has a pool/park in his backyard. Big skate parties. PM me if you want and I'll introduce you (via internet). Have fun man.
Just found this trailer to Rip City, a documentary about skating in Portland (dave is in it). Looks really cool. These guys are so stoked on skating-you've gotta check this out.

Another Arizonan moving to Portland? What a small world. I'll be there at the end of June. Have I ridden with you? Whenever I'm in Tucson I ride with Brody and Josh. Do you already have a place to stay or do you need roomates at all?

Make sure you pack toilet paper because you might have to go at your new residence and the last inhabitants probably took theirs with them.

Re: Moving to Portland, tips?
Daddies board shop is great. In my IMO better staff and inventory than Cal's but hey check out everything.
Hmm sandy... move to Happy Valley inside the valley. You can still dominate Mt. Tabor (I'ts a close drive) but you also have some sick neighborhod streets and roads to cruise and DH. Sure the cops are bitches and wouldn't let me ride with my friends at 2AM because it's "not safe"
