First pool setup
Hey guys now I usually won't post up a what setup thread but I'm pretty newbish when it comes to pool boards. Got some cash from the rents for my 21st and decided to splurge it on a pool setup.
Was looking at this board:
Powell Peralta Mike Vallelly
But I am wondering how the cargo trucks are. I've never heard of them has anyone ever ridden them? Otherwise, i was thinking of upgrading them to indys (i'm thinking 169s?). In terms of wheels, I don't really think they would matter all that much now considering I'm just starting out.
Any opinions on the whole setup?

A nice pool setup for sure. Seems kind of steep to me. Is that just cause it's in Aus?
That board is really cool. I used to have the original back in the 80's. It's funny, the trucks shown are Trackers, but the info says Cargo. Weird. I would look for the board seperate and build it with Indy's or Trackers. Cargo is marginal quality truck. Not sure what the cost for shipping would be, but here it is cheaper with better wheels and trucks:
Skate One | Vallely Elephant
Hope that was some help.

Re: First pool setup
I don't know about that price, or cargo trucks BUT, I have several
Powell Peralta OG Reissues (not the Vallely) and really like the way they
ride.

Re: First pool setup
You def. want to upgrade to indy's, here's my two pool boards... may help you with ideas:
(the two red ones)

The "pool" shaped one has Indy's and 60 mm No Skools 94a
the popsicle is a powell and has tensors and Spitfire F1 Parkburners
I have a bunch of skateboards
Isn't this what you're supposed to put in a signature?

Re: First pool setup
Look into a Sergio Pro model deck. Classically it's a slide deck but it's an extremely well designed deck. The deep concave really locks in your feet.
As for trucks, nothing like indy 149s. Wheels, go with rainskates 98a 59mm.
It will be an epic setup
I am fairly new to pool skating too and after trying almost 10 different setups, this was the one I learnt most tricks on!

Re: First pool setup
thanks for the replies guys. yeah the price is in AUD so it may look alot more expensive that what you're used to. i actually ended up placing the other at socal skates cause when i did upgrade the trucks to indys price just flew up so i figured it'd be cheaper to bring it in from the states.
was thinking of putting on some 62mm alligator reds on them (had a spare set around) so i can cruise around it as well. how will that hold up?

The Alligator wheels will be fine for the streets, curbs, ect.
If you start riding pool & parks a harder wheel will give better
speed.
So I assume you got the Vallely? Let us know how you like it.
I order from SoCal Skateshop quite a bit, Mike has been great.

Re: First pool setup
I know it's been said before but I recommend you switch your stock Indy bushings to bones hardcore. I took the advice of others here when I ordered by Indys and was glad that I did.
Make no small plans....

Re: First pool setup
+1 on switchin out the Indy bushings.
I have a set of the Rainskates Stingers, the hard white ones 62 MM.
They are smokin fast on smooth concrete.

only major complain i have about it was the bearings i got. 3 of them had their shields bent. expected socal to assemble their boards with more care.
too bad melbourne is having some crazy weather right now i'll take it out for a skate first thing tomorrow
Sorry, Not to sound condescending .Vallely's model is more of a oldschool street board. he is more a street skater .At that time frame, It's all wooden 1/2 pipes and street obstacles. The concrete skateparks hype is long gone. Please don't get me wrong! People can ride any deck they want! Mike Vallely is one of grandfather of modern street skating.
