Default 60mm Bones SPFs vs 60mm NOSkoolz in 78a...

my park/bowl/ditch setup is a Powell Reissue (Ray Barbee Ragdoll) with hybrid 215s and 60mm SPFs, which works great in the park/bowl but any where else rides like a jackhammer because of the SPFs (surprise).

I'd like to strike a balance between what works great-enough in the park/pool (I'm average at best so does the speed difference really matter?) and what feels better for ditches/streets (a little wider and softer).

so - if I swap the 60mm SPFs out for some 60mm NOSkoolz in 78a, how drastic will the difference be in the park/bowl? like, so slow it hardly goes fast enough to work right? or not really all that different? etc...

or, are the SPFs so vastly superior in the park/bowl that I just ought to leave them on and swap the wheels out for something different when I want to ride this board somewhere like street/ditch?

    thanks.

Two sets of wheels is the answer, the 78a NoSkoolz will be dog slow in the park.
Getting an "in between" duro will not work out good either, it will suck both in the park and on rougher surfaces....

56mm earthwing superballs. They are extremely quick for a wheel their size, and they don't mush over cracks, but almost bounces off them. They're faster than my 65mm rainskates tsunamis.

I just got some bones DTF to try and solve that very same problem. So far I've mostly skated in the park with them and they are fast, they do seem better on the street but I'm mostly curious about ditches and rougher parks. Bones now calls them ATF (All terrain formula). Ultimatly though two sets of wheel does work. 78a are way to soft for parks if you want to get some speed going.

I like my 85a Powell-Peralta Rat Bones, pretty decent in the park, and still they ride nice on crappy tar.

    Bump for a related question....

I am new to pool riding. Actually haven't even taken my board to the pool yet because of work. I've been using the board to commute to work for two days and my Bones ATFs (same as DTFs I guess) feel terrible for just cruising around. Is this just because I'm used to the smooth ride of my abec11 wheels on a longboard? I thought that the bones would be the best compromise for decent ride everywhere.

So stoked to hit the pool this week! I haven't skated a ramp in like 8 years!

ATF is the same as the soft cores, just a different name. DTF was a harder wheel.

all right... so after more riding I just want to say that I don't like the ATFs for the park. They roll well on poor pavement but feel slow on the perfect park pavement. And are so grippy they make bertlemens difficult. Are Powell bombers the Answer?

92a is my GO TO thane for a ditch wheel. fast, but grip good and dont rattle your brains out on chunky trannies and the like.

ive got some 60mm no skools in 92 i love. really good all around wheel for one of that width. if i need a harder one i rock spitfire classics.

i wouldnt go lower than 85a for anything. too damn slow.

if you can pickup some oldskool wheels(SC made a few) that are like 88a but narrow like a street wheel in 60-65mm. awesome wheels for that, as well as your favorite liquor store board(and if you dont have one of those, youre missin OUT!!)
