    Default Ramps R Fun

Rain keepin you from skatin, don't tell me you got unused indoor space with no ramps. I am lucky enough to have access to a concrete floor 50x30 shop. Ramps are easy to build and a #### load of good fun. I built this 6ft wide x 2.5ft tall ramp in a single day this weekend (still need to add the massonite, though); cost = $100.

Ramps are great! I have on ein my yard but it's rained so much this year it's hard to skate. Last week we had 5 straight days with no rain though, it finally got dried out and some friends and I had a great session. Now it's raining like hell again.

Massonite is a brown composite material that comes in large sheets like plywood, you can get it at nearly any Home Depot. I plan on adding the massonite and coping this weekend, and prolly a larger deck (it will be raining again in Central Texas this weekend). I got my ideas on ramp building from xtremeskater.com for the basics, then you just play around with how steep and long you want the transition to dial in the ramp to your liking (this is done when you trace out the side pieces of plywood).

i have also built a quarter pipe in my garage.

pics are before it was finished.

Masonite is called hardboard at home depot, and its pretty cheap.

also, rampplans.org is a better website to use

Nice work, hey what size pipe is that? I have heard 1.5 inch and also 2.5 inch, I think most parks are 2.5 inch or so, why would 1.5 inch be better on a homemade ramp? Wouldn't you wanna practice on the same size coping as the parks? I am gonna get the pipe for my coping today, please help, thanks. I wonder if Home Depot carries this kinda pipe.

I guess I will answer my own question, just called Home Depot - they gots black steel in plumbing dept., but 1.5in max diameter - the best part is they will cut it to the length you want in the store - sweet.

a 1.5 just makes it easier to get your wheels over when you're doing stalls. if you're already used to a 2.5 then go with that.

actually plumbing pipes are not good to work with, as they are thick and expensive. go to the fencing section and get some metal fence posts. or just take some from your yard

I did a quickie job on the coping with a 1in pipe, but finished out the ramp this weekend. It's a large mellow ramp that will be fun for all levels of skaters amongst my nephews, and should last a really long time (its built with screwed 2x6). I did a little paint job on it as well.

Dude that thing looks awesome, pretty much my ideal mini. With some pool coping too!?! Soo jealous.

I finally got a decent session yesterday on the new ramp, I would pump and push between our two quarter pipes and go higher and higher, then would bump against the coping. Its a pretty big step, doing your first stall that high with the added stress of such a big bump (okay I am a noob wussie). Anyway, I also found the coping being an issue just rolling down the ramp from the top. So, I took the coping off and back filled with a strip of wood - anyway, was very psyched to have accomplished stalls now at the top (will add coping back eventually). We got a 12in spine, an 18inch ramp, a 30in quarterpipe, and a 36in quarterpipe. It takes awhile to get into the grove, but you get to be creative and come up with many different lines, then push limits a bit, and you actually end up with a pretty darn good session.
