So I'm at it again. Thinking about building a miniramp for the backyard.
Just thinking about it. IF I do it won't happen until after winter.
I've got a little spot picked out. Not a great spot but I could put up a small one there. How small? It is going to have to be six feet wide and less than four feet tall. The decks are probably one going to be two feet deep. Micro mini ramp for sure. Just a little something to dork around on after work when I can't make it down to the skate park (which is most days).
I'm torn on the coping. Six feet wide doesn't give you much room to grind. I'm leaning towards just doing a hard wood coping or making some sort of homemade cement "pool" coping. Although I have some old fence pipe that I could use. Yeah that is going to dent and deform like crazy but I have it laying around already. I have time to think about this.
I'll be throwing around more ideas on here later.

my next project will be a 4ft tall continuous miniramp almost bowl style or a big wallride ramp. I really enjoy building ramps, but they cost $$$ and we are limited on space in our shop - the darn ceiling is kinda low, but at least it's indoors.
Anyone know how wide an apartment has to be to build a miniramp in?
I got a really high ceiling, I'm so tempted...
the hard part is that they're pretty long. about 24 ft. long and 4 ft. wide is a fun size for one. might be able to shave a foot or 2 off the length but its still gonna take up a lot of space. if you're renting, its gonna be fun taking that out when its time to move..
edit: 24' x 4' for your apartment one. some fun outdoor ones i've skated are 8' wide.
as for coping, i think the easiest would be the metal. pool coping would be sick, but it'd probably take a little more work to set it right.

How long is the one at Mike D's place in Brooklyn?
got a pic? how high did you want it?
this one looks about 16 ft. coping to coping.
i think masonite peices come in 3' x 6' peices so just go off of that. they might come in 4' x 6' or something. i don't know the width. then add about 3' of space for the platforms.

you should be able to pour your own concrete coping with just a couple bags for something that size.. and concrete is ALWAYS better
I had a friend that built this real fun skate ramp park in his three car garage. It had a spin, a hip, a bowled corner, wall ride with speed hump and an extension. It was small and didn't have much flat bottom. It was just a little funland set up. I skated that so much. It sucked bowling in that corner. That was one of the last things we did on that set up.
So if you put your mind to it, you could put all kinds of ramps in an apartment. You just have to get creative and play around with it. You can build a bunch of quarter pipes and move them around. Just lay down plywood between the ramps if you have carpet. Just make sure you leave yourself some head room.
All the house construction sites around me all have surveillance cameras. So going old school on gathering ramp supplies may not work for my ramp project.

i've been thinking about putting one in my apartment too. I got this rooftop patio, about 30X30ft which would make so much fun. Although I would have to watch out for the edges cause theres a railing and then a 100ft death drop, oh ya, the neigbors might not like the constant banging around either.
It looks like the coping is either flat or really sunk in. if you're going to make a mini-pipe i sudjest you don't do this. my friend had really sunk in coping and it made everyother pipe a lot harder to stall or anything becuase we were used to just rolling over the coping.

Yeah, I am fixing to add my 1in coping back (currently flat), but really want to emulate skatepark coping as you say - I betcha pipe like that costs a fortune, though
