Its the square cutout towards the lip of the pool, normally for the filter/pump thing or whatever. If you don't nail your grind across it, well, you'll find out why its called the death box

grinding over it is like attaining a black belt in a martial art. (in my mind) the belt system goes something like this:

kick turn on the face wall = white belt
carve the face wall = yellow belt
carve over the light = red belt (or whatever color comes next)
grind the deep end = brown belt
grind over the death box = black belt

i would say its because if you dont make the grind and try to come off over the deathbox part, your wheels would get caught it it and you would get assraped. its not the difficulty of the grind, same difficulty, but if you dont pull it off, you have a greater chance of dying.

the deathbox being more difficult is like dropping in the first time. the technique is not really difficult, it's the mental factor that does it.

also the greater chance of death as Brayden put it always makes things harder. walking across the street in the crosswalk = easy, crossing the freeway = greater chance of death. the walking technique is still the same.

good for you!. remember that these are my own ideas and probably unintentionally make me look good. I'm also a yellow belt in this system.

man, you'd think that if I invented this ranking system, I'd at least given myself a better belt...

    karate moms

the next worst thing after soccer moms and little league dads, just under ingrown toenails for annoying pain in the a$$!

*for all those who are actually contemplating a belt ranking system, please note that this was all done tongue in cheek. not to be taken litterally.
