Just remember to have enough weight on the front foot and bend your knees.
The coping-less quater pipe I've tried to practice on doesn't work well with the huge tail this thing has. Or the 64mm wheels. So it's either potentially have the tail slip out and bash my head, or learn on the 4 foot bowl. And I plan on doing just that once I get healed up. Thanks though.

try this: set your tail up, bend your knees.. then reach out to grab the nose of your board. dont grab it of course, but this will help you get the weight forward, and off your back foot. my friend showed me this last year, and it worked right away. i hadnt dropped in on anything since 1989 or so.

Dont worry about dropping in on a coping less qp, that's where I learned to and I didn't fell once. You just need to put all weight forward and dont hesitate. Then it's clean as pie. I still have to learn to drop from the 2.5m qp at the local SP.

Been working on the park since november, even thought its been ctappy weather here all that time. Got a few stalls in my bag, but not really any grinds.
Can someone define "backside grinds", just a grind on a BS carve?
Cheers.

Pretty much. But I just kickturn onto a grind (backside), I guess 50-50, and kick back down. But I've seen people carve into the 50-50 bs grind.

Cool. Ive just about got them down but there seems a world of difference between them and getting right up on the coping to grind like in a 50-50 stall.
-
True, totally different. I cant get myself to commit to actually getting up and above the coping to grind. I like to play it safe. :P

I think I do the same thing. Just carve until I hit the coping. Should my wheels be rolling on the flat to do a real 50-50?

I dont think it matters as long as there is truck grindage. Cuz when I do a 50-50 on a curb or ledge, the wheels kinda roll still. I dunno.

Rocks are very easy to do, but then again pretty scary to learn. After a while you feel comfortable with the transition and try out new version of the rocknroll - when you learn it try to pull of a "fakie rock n roll to fakie" if you know what I mean, then try to do a fakie rock n roll with the 180 both before and after you smack the coping

I think one of the problems is I practice on a shorter quarter pipe without coping. My 64mm wheels get hung up easily. Blame the equipment and surroundings, not the rider 8)

I gotta try these variations at the ditch. Easier to rock n roll there.

Can you guys give me some advice on how to keep up your speed in parks? I see guys flying around the bowls but I have to pedal like 100 times to get any speed. I can pump going down banks/quarter pipes, but going up feels weird to me. Is it just practice or is there any better way?

Yeah, it's practice that helps. You gotta feel confident in the transition, so you can pump your way up and down even if you do a kickturn. Altough, I don't recommend to do some fatass bowl-carves if you don't have the proper wheels. If it's slippery, then stay low.
