id have to say the ollie pop really adds the steeze if your on a mini normally i wont even try in a deep bowl to ollie out but on a shallow mini im all about snapping out an ollie
sorry for the no grab in this pic but its most definitely me lofting a frontside ollie

also if your trying to get a sexy tuck knee try grabbing around your back truck. i used to grab stinkbug style forever and when i switched to trying tuck knees i just found it easier to grab closer to the back truck and eventually you'll just get used to going around the knee to get to the middle of the board

OH MY CRAP! i just did my first FS AIR!
    ok, ill set the seen

after practicing some downhill then some sliding, i came home to practice some ditch sort of stuff. all the while ominous clouds loomed over head, waiting to pore there gallons of water on me and my ride.
i turned on the drive way light, just as the rain began to trickle and knew i had not long to go...

my drive way is pretty much the ultimate for skaters: steep and smooth. its pretty much a giant banking slab of concrete that gets steeper as you get higher, but not quite a quarter pipe.

i had never attempted a FS air before, but thought that i should give it a go just for shits n giggles. my first few attempts ended with me running back down the slope, so i decided to just do indy turns (or what ever they are called) for a bit.

i then tried kicking the tail and pulling up at the highest point and i sawed gloriously into the air (2-3 inches maybe) then landed with my back wheels sliding... just as the rain turned to a storm.

so yeah, there is my mad sick dramatized version f the events that occurred for me this afternoon...
    HULLO!

i cant believe no one has made jokes about these yet!

I.E. "Briannes wood is bigger!" or "I cant believe im riding K-Rimes/Brianne" or similar. What are we, mature?!

Sup peeps, i ride a dervish in the skatepark so i am without a tail. Tails are nice, but the dervish is just awesome for parks and pools.
I need some help in doing a FS Air WITHOUT the tail. Ive seen it done by the Great Louis Pilloni, but i havent ever learned how to do it myself. I can jump out and get big air just fine, i just cant go up, out, around and down without eating the most heinous of nutty-brown poo.

Can anyone give me some advice?
Its not the speed that kills you... its that sudden STOP at the end.

I think a lot of stinkbug grabs come from surfing, because since surfboards are wider, you can easily grab the center of the board and still tuck your knee (pigdogging, indy grabs airs), unfortunately, it doesn't translate well to narrow boards.

Anyways, I was wondering if you could do a tutorial for axle stalls. I can do short 50-50 grinds, but I can never completely stall on the coping

    Fist post....

I haven't skated in close to 12 years now and I recently decided to put an end to that. I'm pushing 30 and hell bent on skating pools/vert. Instead of going with what I'm used to, I decided to pick up and old school re-issue (Powell/Mcgill) just because I've always love old school style/culture.

Normally I can jump on a board with no problem but trying to navigate my old school deck was life driving a ****en bus. During my first session at a local park with it I had no problems dropping in, turning etc, but I just can't help but feel like leaning to skate pools with an old school set up is making it a bit more difficult on myself. You guys think I should just can the Mcgill deck for now and go back to a regular deck until I get a better grasp on things, or just tough it out?

if you are not running your trucks way loose, give it a shot.

either way, give it some time, you'll get used to it.

I understand what you're saying, i've only skated 70s and 80s decks. I was at a park about 10 yrs ago with a younger friend who skated popsicle style decks. We decided to swap decks for awhile at the session. I slammed just dropping in, i just couldn't get used to the feel at all and he said the same about my old school style set-up. I even bought an Alien Workshop deck later and tried to get used to it, but it just wasn't going to happen.

I agree with Gottliver, but if it still frustrates you, why not try a wide (9"or 9.5") new school shape. I love and prefer 80s style decks because they are comfortable, controllable, stable, stylish and i like knowing where the front of the deck is!

bottom line: IMO i'd stay with old-school style, maybe the width is a factor to you? Personally i feel if a deck is wider than 9"ish it's overkill.
I just think it's cool that younger skaters are getting into pool/vert instead of just flipping on to rails. KEEP IT FUN!

So... Can anybody point me in the direction of the other tutorials discussed in this thread? Or were those abandoned altogether in favor of style/board debates?

Just want to say this is probably the most comprehensive document on how to do a frontside air I have seen online. It is the first I have seen that wasn't on vert and the first I have seen not doing ollie airs out of a mini ramp. Whether the guy in the document has dreads, cornrolls, rock and roll/metal look, spiked, rockabilly greaser style, or an everyday joe-bag-of-donuts look I commend him on doing this. For a subculture thought to be so different at one time we certainly do have some very di**headed and a**hole opinions don't we? Anyway, well-thought and can't wait to start using this tutorial!
