I have only recently ventured into the relms of park riding , needless to say Im not that good yet, but I think I need smaller faster , maybe softer? and hopefully quieter wheels
Im using 64 bowlbombers, on 169s with Bones reds which feel ok but I cant seem to get enough speed out of them.
Im probley still a bit stiff in my riding, age 43.
I can take off down a 2mtr ramp ,go over the hump/gring set up in the middle and up the 2mtr wall to the copeing but just dont have enough speed to get up and over , I was wondering if it was the 64s, should I try smaller wheels? or is it my technic( none exsistent). and is there another quieter wheel I could look at, those 64s are loud mothers,
My 6yr son can drop in from 2mtr and get up and over the other side , which is great to see , and Id like to as well,
I cant drop in from that height, thats why I go down the ramp..
so any suggestions.

what the hell is a nood? lol just kidding
anyway, work on pumping when you ride, or shifting your weight forward when going down the ramp to get more speed. Also, softer wheels will be a bit quieter.

I'd work on pumping the walls very hard, first. See if it's you rather than the gear. Also, if it's a smooth park, hard wheels should give you the most speed (but yes, softer wheels should be quieter). The downside to softer wheels is more grip, so if you screw up you can't just push the board out and let the wheels drift the right way to straighten you out.
I suck at park riding, but I tried hitting some banks on my street board. If I didn't pump I could make it halfway up the wall, and if I pumped perfectly I could barely make it over. My friend who knows how to ride had no trouble making it over any time. It's all practice with lots of these things.

I just picked up a set of the Powell SPF wheels the other day (I got 55mm, you would want bigger probably) and I am very surprised how well they hold their speed on smooth surfaces. Some of the fastest wheels I have ridden in parks, I definitely recommend them. They come in a few different sizes, so choose whichever size will fit your board.

Powell G-bones....but i have limited experience with park wheels. i have only ridden G-bones, S9 banditos, noskoolz and some mini logo 60mm 99a wheels. g-bones are the best out of all that i have ridden. hope that helps
Thanks guys I`ll try and see if the pumping helps, the carrent park is quite small ,but there is a new one being built as we type with 2 good size bowls and banks etc, it should be complete next monthIm going to try and hit it everyday before wrk when all the kids are at school,,,or should be
sorry it's your legs (don't feel bad my 41year old legs have the same problem)...quieter wheels are slower wheels...seriously though pump the tranny as hard as you can (that has so many conotations) to build speed eventually it will be easier

dave p knows what he is talkin about here. the blue sf bowl bombers are the fastest park wheel, the powel spf is a close second. in park, the harder the wheel the faster, so if you go softer, you will find that you get less grip, and a lot slower, just get the blue ones and you will be happy, also its good to have a loud wheel for park, people need to hear ya coming
My park setup is currently rockin 57mm ricta gilfberg wheels. They're great wheels for a shorter board in general. I definetly think pumping and generally picking out a line that is going to give you the most speed is something you should work on as well. Depending on your park you might be able to spot a line that's going to give you a load of speed and set you up to attempt something stupid. Or if nothing else at least have you tearing ass around the park.
PS glad to see you made a speedy recovery

For quick acceleration, go with 60 or 62mm Bones SPFs. For more top-end speed, get some 64mm Bones PF wheels. If it's slippery or you want a slightly quieter ride, 95a Powell/Bones wheels in 60-64mm are good.

I think its probably more about learning to pump and utilize the terrain, than it is about the wheels. If you were riding some sort of 50mm worn out wheels with worn out bearings, it might be a different story.

guys your`ve given me some good advice , things to think about, so cheers for that.
But yeah my 43yr legs hold up pretty good going down hills etc but this park thing is something I need to get used to, I think my set up is pretty good .I need to practice.
I may try some 60mm bones, just to see if there is any difference,, cant wait for the new park to be ready,,,saw them pouring the bowls today,
It's not the Wheels. I've seen guys shred through parks at warp speed on 90's style "bearing cover" wheels. I ride 57-8s or something regularly. I also have a #### board with wheels down to about 45-46mm and there is no noticeable difference in speed,pump-ability.
The equipment isn't going to charge through at mach for you,nor will it do that front 5-0 in the pocket for you.
A lot of working a park real hard is begin flexible, and pumping hard every single transition you cross over,be it roundwall a small speed tit, whatever. I see a lot of Older guys(no offense amigo) just pumping the roundwall and cruising over the other park features. Gotta pump all that ####,every nook and cranny.
