do you really think you can ride the bear? it is more intense then most of the hills i've ridden, and just hitting the second wall can be suicidal if you go at the wrong angle.
Actually..............yes.
Most certainly.
And I think you are very much most likely correct.
Better be REAL careful.
Those trannys are strange, and radical........
One of the reasons I mounted 10mm Grizzlies with steel spacers on my Rogers board.
That rig could take just about anything, hopefully.
I call it....."the Grizzly Bear board".
In the meantime......I use it for stuff other than ditches.
sweet bro. just be careful when you ride it, wear full pads and a helmet, and the bottom might be full of dirt because of construction they are doing in the main drainage canal, so they run the tractors and stuff through it. they spent hours to clean only a part of it for the slap.

Sweet, friendly N00B DITCH to learn on
Most of you guys probably know this one; it's like a much slower, tidier version of Layton. No hazards, no ladders, plenty of soft sand and bushes to bail into. Nice and smooth, with a bike path alongside it. I call it the
"PLEASE DON'T KILL ME, MR. DITCH" Ditch and it runs from behind the condos on the little side road at the intersection of Osuna and Moon, straight down to Wyoming Blvd. Hardcore ditch skaters won't want to do this one, but it'd be a great place to teach your girlfriend, or your little brother, how to skate a ditch without getting hurt.
When you get to Wyoming, you can trot across the road and hop on the bicycle path that runs downhill to the Arroyo del Oso Golf Course, if you like, and then there's a bicycle path along the right-hand (westbound) lane of Osuna. Lots of nice, sleepy neighborhoods with broad streets to skate around in, south of Osuna Blvd. Although a lot of them end in stop signs which are totally hidden behind bushes/trees...mind you don't fly out into traffic.

I call that one "Spain" ditch. Fun little ditch. There are a few little mini banks and curbs near the bottom that are fun to session, if you're into that kinda thing. You sometimes have to watch out for blasts of water from the city, they relieve excess pressure into the ditch at certain times. Usually dries up pretty quickly though.
Has anyone ridden the ditch off of 2nd street SW? I was taking a ride with the family a couple of weeks ago and saw a nice looking ditch off of 2nd st going south past the Hispanic Cultural center towards a bunch of farms. It looked like two ditches coming into one (a Y shape) with a spine and nice big transitions. It was pretty tagged up, looked like a south valley party spot (maybe a bust), but looked worth checking out. Just wondering if anyone had the scoop on it.

Thanks for the safety tip reminder.
I'm an older skater, and I almost always wear the gear.
At least the majority of it.
Especially in the event of doing any form of real speed runs.
Tha ABQ ditches are uncharted territory for me, but fast bank skating is what I do best, going back to about 1978.
Slalom, DH, and pools trail behind.
Los Altos sk8park would be right up my alley.
The trick for me.....is just to..............................get there / make the trek.
Relocation is a possibility, maybe.
The weather there is superior overall to muggy Florida, in my opinion.
And there are other factors.
Not to piss off the locals, but me and a buddy are flying into your town from Fort Worth and Houston JUST TO SKATE FOR 3 OR 4 DAYS!! We pretty much bomb parking garages and the occasional hill - and the lure of the ditches is strong. This directory is awesome and will be held in high reverence as we hit as many ditches as possible.
One question: how do we get back to the top of any particular run?? We'll have one car......
how would that piss us off? it's a problem that many of us have. getting to the top is hard. down, easy. and if you want something better than this directory, ask a local, like me, or any member of team abq, or other people. while the directory tells you where stuff is, locals know the sweet spots of these ditches, and hills. when are you guys coming to abq, and good to know you're coming. congrats!
These posts are making me feel really old...
To see the question "Can you really ride the Bear?" drops me to the floor in fits of laughter. So much of this forum was built on the early races at the Bear it's not even funny.
Ignore me. I'm just glad to see it's all still rolling, but sad to see Burqué's ditches become "hipster" bait. Ah well, they warned us back then.
