first of all, i think you need a trip to albuqueruqe, god's city of ditches. secondly, it is freedom. it is the ability to ride walls, and go downhill at the same time. quite an experience. try it sometime.
Yes you do. You just need to look for them harder.
actually we don't where i live the drainage system is under the streets so no actually we don't. we have banks that are like that...that are bank to bank but they aren't long like a drainage ditch
trust me you do....the drainage systems (sewer) everywhere are underground, these are more for rain run off and whatnot. Grant it, its going to be a pain finding one in new york city, but i would imagine somewhere there is one. go talk to the guys in the new york threads.
P.s. if you find one i doubt it will be nice like the one pictured, the one by me is pretty much limited to street skating, short and steep, but its fun as hell.

they only have them where there is a good chance of flash flooding. im not sure about new york, but i have never seen anything like it in canada. i think its pretty likely that new york's storm drains are all under ground. maybe the ground is too rocky to tunnel massive concrete pipes through it in new mexico.

LOL. There are rocks (granite even!) under all that dirt and trees in New York. The reason people skate so many ditches in the desert is because they are dry most of the year.

bedrock is usually 30+ feet down, well below storm drains. if they had to tunnel through solid rock, i'm sure we would have ditches like that here. but we don't, and it rains 330 days of the year.
edit: maybe its because it is usually dry in NM that they put the ditches on the surface. pipes would probably get clogged and animals living in them if they were dry most of the time. also you can fit a shitload more water in those ditches than in pipes. its too hilly here, they wouldn't be able to make them run downhill. i think you guys are mistaken, these ditches are definitly a southern thing. we have whole rivers that they put in pipes and run underneath the city. im pretty sure if burried pipes would work they would have used them in new mexico.
