hey there folks.....been learnin to skate in bowls/pools everyothere day for bout 2 wks now. i'm havin trouble with fs kick turns. my backside kickturns seem to be progressing ok and i pull them off more often than not now bout 3/4 up a 6 ft bowl thats almost vert, but my frontside kickturns are almost nonexistance. i seem to almost always have too much weight on my back foot and fall on my ass.
any suggestions, tips, info would be rad
thanks guys!
I started learning my fs kickturns just yesterday after perfecting my bs 5-0's. I came up at a slight turn, so that when I got to the highest point, I'm almost at a 45 degree angle. I just let the front wheels come loose, and lean back slightly till I've turned 100%, and put my wheels down. Start low and go higher and higher.

Re: kick turn help
This may not be the problem you're experiencing, but it is a common one when learning frontsides. Your natural tendency is to try to keep your body upright, and to not lean back. Unless you're doing standup grinds, you want your body 90* to the wall, not to the ground. Until you get used to doing it, leaning back feels "wrong", and your brain will scream at you that you need to stand up. But if you aren't leaning back, your center of gravity isn't directly over the board (relative to the wall), but pushing against it sideways...

as above, plus the ole benz zee knees!. As you ride up the wall get lower and think of bringing knees to you shoulders. Being stiff alllways makes fs turns/tricks harder
You've been given some great advise here, its sounds like you need to bend
your knees more. Try em on the flat, then go to a banked wall and get
comfortable, then low on the vert wall, look at some video's of the pros, see
where their weight is.
i dont know if you are already, but if you arent, try leading into the kick turn with your shoulders/torso first. start rotating your upper body. then when its time to lift the front of the board, it requires less to bring it around. this should lower the amount of time youre spending on your rear axle. might help. give it a shot.
thanks guys....things are comin along. fs still feels way harder than bs but i'm gettin more and more comfy with them. the biggest things were leading with my shoulders and makin sure my body was 90 deg. to the bowl not flat ground
following my phylosophy learn slow and well I got those down...
best thing for me is learning on a 45deg ditch, goal being doing them as clean as possible, 180 and clack, wheels down...pump up the other side repeat...
Now I really need to drop in..damn.
I can climb hard stuff and I've been falling up to 15 feet ( wit a rope) why am I scared of a 3 feet drop? Mistery.

I have said this before, but dropping in is about 70% balls
and 30% skill. You CAN do this, just get it up there on
a small bowl and push down hard on your front bolts. You
just have to commit.
