Got a stellar deal on this Powell that i plan to use as my first true 'pool' skateboard. (less than $40!) but it does sort of bug me that i have no idea what it is actually called. I would love if one of you could identify it, but i think its doomed to be forever known in my mind as 'that random powell deck'
Im sure you all have fond memories of random wood you've bought when you intended to get a different deck, only to find one calling to you from a dusty skate shop corner. (in fact, it seems to me that most of my favorite decks have been bought on a whim because they just felt right). let's hear some stories!

I'm with Hot Wheels on this one. I am thinking this MAY be vintage. I am pretty sure there was a time when Powell Peralta just went by Powell even thought Stacy Peralta was on board. I know he left the company in the early 90's and had his name taken off the products. Send a picture to someone at Old School Skates - Home Page if you care. If not, shred that wood! I am the kind of guy that if I found a vintage '57 Strat or '59 Les Paul Gold Top guitar for cheap I would play it!
Nice find!,

Powell originally started in the mid 70s as the Powell Corporation, and went by that name for about two years, until Stacy left G&S to join up with Powell. At that point, they became Powell-Peralta. That deck definitely isn't from those early years: the deck is too wide, the tail and especially the nose are too long, and it looks like it has concave and a nose kick.
Looks like a Powell Classic Pool. The current version has a Ripper graphic on it, but a few years ago, it just had the Powell logo:

I think you must be right, it looks an awful lot like the Powell classic pool.
oh, and I didn't mean to get anyone too excited, its definitely not an older deck, it has "s.o.c 2004" in real small print on it. still, I think it was a good find, and I intend to shred it till it snaps in half. Thanks for your help!
