Question Bowls with a Longer Deck

I've just started checking out the bowl at my local skatepark and am hooked. I've got a 42 inch board so I'm finding my inability to turn tightly a problem, any recommendations on turning sharper in bowl or simply just bowl riding on a longer board?
thanks.

well, maybe you'd prefer getting a pool specific board which is quite a bit shorter. If you really want to ride a longboard, then I guess you just have to get used to it or buy new parts to help you to ride, like harder wheels, getting wide pool trucks, like tracker darts or Indy stage 10's. What I would do is buy a seperate board... Then you've really got the most control, and start progressing quicker, and have more fun, but it's up to you. One setup I would suggest is the gravity 35 or 36" pool model. It's a nice, wide board. For wheels, definitely get rainskates if you can.

Cheers!

Make sure your board is set up right. Get angled risers – very important – and ride your trucks as loose as you can. Try using smaller wheels to fight wheelbite and the rest is just practice. I find it easier to ride bowls on a boardsize you are used to, rather then get a smaller board. I ride a 40" Gravity BE myself.

Ah cool. I've got a gravity mini carve 42. I hadn't intended to do any bowls when I got it, but I tried them out on the weekend and they're pretty sick. I've still just got it setup how it shipped. It has angled risers and 72mm 78a wheels.

I'd get some Powell Bowl Bombers or similar if this is gonna be your main skate for parks. And you didn't say what trucks your riding but skinnier turns quicker so keep that in mind. I've got 149's on my Comet 40" and with the front truck wedged around 5* it turns tight enough for almost all the local bowls around here, save for one.

I've got some Tracker 149mm Darts. So you guys recommend loosening up the trucks and getting some smaller harder wheels?

That would help. Loose trucks, Bowl Bombers PF or Bones SPF 60mm or 62mm

I would also put you on a pool deck 9-9.5" X 15-16" WB, Indy 169's.
