this was fairly experimental of me. i've never seen this board in real life, let alone ridden it. so if anyone who has could share their experiences and opinions, i would be grateful. do you think it works with this set-up?

I have essentially the same board, different graphic. It may also be slightly wider at it's widest point.
As far as the ride, I used as a commuter and a casual thrasher. Has a little less concave then i would really like in a pool board, a very large tail, and no nose, which is something I would desire.
Final opinion, I love to ride and thrash the board, but because of the oversized, albeit crazy fun, tail and the lack of a real nose, I ride a different deck for the little pool and park skating that I do.
I hope this helped, and I'm sure you'll love the board no matter what you end up doing with it anyway.
Edit: On second look, my tail is also slightly wider than this model. And i also ride it on 169's and it's awesome.

thanks for the info. is it fairly heavy?

Re: powell peralta caballero
Seeing as you are very young, I'd suggest sticking to more modern shape and concaves. These re-issues are really suited as reminders of us old guys hayday boards. There is a reason boards have changed the way they have, and I fear you might be disappointed not being able to toss it around like the current shapes you're probably used to.

that's what i have a shortboard for. i'm planning on getting this for the sake of trying different styles. do you think this board would be very difficult to manuever?

Vanilla points out one of my other concerns as well. Ollieis on it feel clumsy and awkward, manageable, but different.

Re: powell peralta caballero
well, my plan is to get used to it and get good at whatever it does best. i'm using it as a tool to help push me in a new direction. i definitely like the idea of the massive tail.

No, I don't think it'll be hard to maneuver. I actually like the old planks better. I can more easily kickflip with them and still have a hard time being so ginger on narrow boards.

Re: powell peralta caballero
yeah, that's what i was hoping it'd be like, in that you can do the things you can on a shortboard, but the feel is different. i'd like to have a more a variety of experience with styles under my belt so i can be a more well rounded skater. i think this board is for me.

That is a great attitude to have. More skaters should think that way.
Among the 80s-style boards, that's a nice choice. I have one of the Caballeros myself. Fun deck.

Re: powell peralta caballero
I have 2 Cab's - but not that one. I really do like both of them
and ride them frequently (getting ready to go out now) however
the one thing I wish they had was a deeper concave.
Does it have the K-15 concave? Because I have read that this is a little deeper than the SPN2 concave on mine.
Does anyone have a Powell K-15 concave pig?
Thanks

the new cab stencil deck has the k15 concave and should be a good choice.

Re: powell peralta caballero
That deck is a good choice (and not just because I have it!) if you want to develop as a skater. I still have my old Lance Mountain from 1987 and my Ripper from around then as well. I got the new Cab 2 and it brings me back.
They are different to ride if you're used to the new school smaller 7 1/2 to 8 1/2 inch wide decks but you'll get used to it. Those decks were around when REAL skating was developed. You'll like the board and get some kicks knowing it was around back in the mid eighties when skating was fun and not just about how many rail slides you could film yourself doing.
Have fun.

I was thinking about buying the cab street:

but it as the SPN2 concave. Do you think it's better to stick with a deck that has the K-15 like the undercross?

Re: powell peralta caballero
I have both the SPN2 on my Cab and the K-15 on my Underhill.
The SPN2 is not bad especially if you were used to the flat boards
of the 70's, but for Vert, the K-15 will hold your feet on better &
give you a better idea of were your feet are. The K-15 has a nice small
kick nose as well, compared to no kick nose on the SPN2.

Re: powell peralta caballero
I agree with the last post. I have a Ripper and Lance Mountain with K-15 and the kick nose is nice for vert and park skating. It really depends on what type of skating you're doing, or want to do. But in the end it's not like you won't be able to do anything if you end up getting a deck with SPN2. Just go out and skate.

Re: powell peralta caballero
A good concave can make all the difference on how your feet interact with the board.. At least to me.
I'm now on a Dogtown Jay Adams 39 1/2 x 9 with curves.
That Cab was one of my first boards.
It will be a bit heavier Gargantuanarm; But definitely maneuverable; Especially with that attitude and some drive..
EDIT: i see this thread was over a month old..
Anything to report on the board G?
