Re: official photography thread
Good Question ^
Canon lenses are interchange-able.
I like Nikon, it feels better in my hand.

Re: official photography thread
Canon XTI rocks. My first dslr this past Christmas. I'd been dragging my feet going completely digital. I'd been given two different cybershots over the last 4 years and eventually my X700 slr has been completely ignored. It was time though because I missed the lens options, exposure control and the ability to take wide shots once in awhile with detail. The little guys never gave me that. I kept thinking Nikon (just like I did in the film days) but knew from experience that I didn't need to pay for the name to get quality pics and finally went for the XTI. You'll like it and with the money saved, you get the few necessities you need.

geez, I was so enamored with X700 (LOVE that thing with power drive, data back and 3 lenses) I'd actually bought 2 more just before I got my first digital. If you're really interested, I'll check when I get home and see if I've still got more than one. I'll have to keep the original. It's been to hell and back with me. It was the USS Ranger's (aircraft carrier) last night in port before heading to the Indian Ocean for 90 days. This kid came in my bar bemoaning the fact it was his last night of liberty and he was broke. (I was part owner of the club). One thing led to another and he gave me his stock X700, bag, 50mm and lens, and I have him an open bar for the night and a free barfine (one of my girls for the night). I digress... I'll check to see if I still have the others.

Canon was my first SLR but it got ripped off when I went home drunk with a street hook overseas. A year later I stumbled onto the Minolta above. I'm happy with the XTI though. Here's a couple of shots I took when experimenting after I first got it in Dec.

Re: official photography thread
Ok, I fixed my issue. I had to rotate this photo, which in turn lost me some edges... so I took some liberties and cloned in a little pavement. I won't ever be able to print it like this, but at least I can share.

The Kick Start is a neat little place in the Short North district of Columbus, OH. I went to the city to visit a friend, and ended up at a Pride parade. We were handed little fliers advertising a free cup of coffee to those who stop in. Turns out it's a coffeehouse AND a scooter store. So neat.
I dropped in and had some coffee. I ended up having a long conversation with one of the employees. (All of the employees were super nice). As I was leaving, I ended up talking to this guy for a good 20 minutes about how Columbus is changing and has changed over the years, and lots of interesting little tidbits about the city. I dunno, not that interesting, but I thought it was cool.

Re: official photography thread

It was my day off. I cycled into town to pick up a music book. The weather was perfect so I kept on going, 35 miles later I'd left England and was in Wales. So much for a short run to the shops...

Re: official photography thread
ughh oh NOOB question is it worth spending money on a lens just because of the aperture? the pentax i purchased came with a smc 50mm f 2.0 would it be worth it to upgrade to 1.7 or 1.4? the only thing compelling me to do so is the opportunity to shoot more photos indoors how much would doing so help? i mean 2.0 and 1.7 don't seem that far apart or are they? Also whats the slowest shutter speed at which you usually shoot indoors shuch as a coffe house or club before things start to look like a impressionist painting?
also lexx think i rember you saying you used to use a zukio 50mm 1.8 and now use a zukio 1.4 but the 1.8 is better, why is that if they are the same size and manufacturer?

I wouldn't spend money on a 50mm f/1.4 if I already had a 50mm f/2. F2 is definitely wide enough to shoot inside or at night and any lower aperture won't be sharp. Spend your money on a flash or a different lens instead.
Carvinconcrete: that second clouds picture is fabulous. I'd spend money on a print.
Vertigo: you're all good at pictures and ####. It's rad.
Here's a goofy picture:
