I still find film more rewarding and in many ways easier to use, but it's not about what you use to make your picture - it's all about the light

I remember thinking that, before I mastered the use of a digital camera. It's light years ahead of film in so many ways, but it's a whole new thing to learn also. The only real use I have for film these days is my Holga, can't let that go.

Sweet pentax.
Also, comparing Film to Digital is like comparing apples to oranges. They are completely different art forms.

Re: official photography thread
I've been thinking about getting a medium format camera. Does anyone have a suggestion for a fair priced one. I have a Holga, but it isn't doing it for me. I just want something with more exposure settings, etc.
I have gear.

On the recommendation of Blix, I got a Bronica ETRS. I've only tested it so far, but it's a nice piece of equipment. I'm finally starting to learn to use it... it's just a beast to lug around when I am so used to 35mm, haha.
TLR's are always fun, too.

Personally if I had the money to spend on one I'd pick a good digital system(nikon or canon) and put it into that. That would be something you could expand on over the years. Film isn't gone but it's dying, and there is nothing you can do with a film camera you can't do with digital. I used to work in a pro-service lab back in the 80s, at the time there were 6 places in my city that sold 120 film, now I have to drive an hour and a half north or order it, it's no longer sold here and there is only one place that will still process it.
I have Holgas and Dianas also, they are great for taking ethereal photos and part of the fun is having a camera with no controls, leaves you with nothing to think about other than composition. But if you want image quality get the technology.
But as 120 film cameras go it depends on what you are into shooting. I would love to have a Mamiya 7 rangefinder myself, but not for the price they still go for. Bronica electronic systems are notorious for problems, I used to shoot with a Mamiya RB 6x7, it was a great system but heavy as hell. Seriously though, if you want a camera for good image quality you'll have to spend some money, and it makes more sense to get a D300 or something like that.

Re: official photography thread
You realize a good amount of "professional" photographers still shoot medium format and/or are returning to film, if only for certain projects. Or, you could look to the movie industry, which is still almost entirely shot on film stock. Film isn't going anywhere for a while... might as well use it while we can and enjoy it.
But really, honestly, it doesn't matter what tools you use, as long as you get the results you want.
Also, nice shot.

True the results are what counts, but I don't know anyone still shooting film professionally myself, with the exception of a few commercial images still done on large format. I've been told that some editors like to see chromes still, but that is fading, and the new sensors in Nikon cameras perform so well in low light it's amazing. The newer cameras like the D3X just plain blow film away, I'm still using a D300 but I want a D3. I have not shot film for anything professionally in 8 years now. I remember when I had my first experiances with digital and said "NEVER!" though. First camera I ever shot with was the dcs400(???) which was a total piece of crap. It was good for last minute deadline and that was it. If you shot with a flash indoors the colors went crazy and couldn't be corrected properly, same went for indoors with window and tungsten light mixed. The D1 was a lot better, but still not as good as a well scanned film, but deadlines moved up and it moved in. I remember my first shoot with it, had to shoot some movie actor at a film screening and when I put the card in the card reader the old mac crashed and burned everything on the card. The D1h came later and since then I have not used film for anything other than getting my old cameras out and doing hobby/art stuff.
