Re: official photography thread
Im having problems with my camera and need help, and because alot of yall know alot more than I do, I figuerd you could probably help. The problem isn't actually the camera(I think...) but instead the lens. It will not focus. The lens is a nikon af-s nikkor 18-55mm. It has worked great befor but for some reason when i try to focus something it just moves around everything stays blurred. At first i thought it was the camera but i have a 70-300mm lens too and that works perfectly fine. so if anyone knows what is wrong and/or how to fix it that would be great!
Speed never hurt anyone. suddenly becoming stationary, now thats what gets ya.

Yeah, I don't have a actual tilt shift filter, so I had to do it myself. And I use Gimp, so it was fun. HAHA.

Gimp ftw although I haven't even scratched the surface as far as it's potential.
Please to educate - what's tilt shift?

Tilt shift is a series of filters to make your picture look like it's a model.
I blur the foreground and background, then up the contrast and "cartoonify" everything. A little sharpening, some color changes, and a ton of trial and error. I ended up with like 20 layers in the end...

Re: official photography thread
8ftbed: Real tilt-shift actually involves a lens that moves. In a tilting or shifting fashion. Technically, miniature faking like this is usually only tilt... a shift lens is weird and I am not sure how it actually works. All I know about tilt is, lens tilts, it is no longer parallel with the film/sensor plane, point of focus changes.Wikipedia

Same thing happened with my 50mm! I'm so sad. I am going to clean the contacts and stuff today. I have dropped it once or twice in past and it's still worked flawlessly but now I think it must be something wrong with the lube in the focusing? Is there such a thing?

Canon 50?
Anyway, that's what's stopping me from even wanting a "nifty fifty" from canon. Their autofocus sucks from the majority of the reviews I've seen. It stops working after a bit.
I don't know what causes that though

Works great now. Honestly I have nothing but good things to say about mine. It's easily one of my favorite lenses. I figured out what had happened...the outer mount ring had popped up out of its casing through no fault but my own! I just hadn't noticed it at night. Plus, night focusing isn't a very easy task either.
