what do you guys think? 70-300mm or 430ex ii flash and 55-250mm...
oh and i'm gonna get a decent cheap 50mm lens too.
Well there are different thoughts on what to get first, and what to learn first.
My instructions from my classes were, learn to shoot RAW and in manual. Learn to use the ISO, time and aperture first before flash. Flash is basically a couple of settings where shooting in manual (ISO, aperture, time). You have to learn to use what you got in many types of lighting situations.
The right type of "glass" or lens is the second most important. Once you have a grasp on the above, finding good glass is next.
And I mean GOOD glass. Canon's 50mm f1.4 runs about 5 bills. That lens is highly rated. A wide angle lens that has good glass and is very sturdy, well made is the Tokina 11-16 or the 12-24 ATX II. That glass is also around 5 bills. The next lens that is suggested is the Canon 24-70mm f2.8L This lens is around $1500 and has extremely sharp glass. A decent mid range lens is the Canon 2.8/3.5-105L. These sometimes come with the Canon 5D. That too is an excellent lens. I am not sure what is the best telephoto lens is (70-250 or 300) for I am more into the closer shots.
Again, my photo class teachers (Canon friendly) told the class learn manual first. As long as you keep shooting, I think its all good.

yeah, i actually have been using manual modes quiet frequently recntly...
so i do want to upgrade my lens. i read a review on both the lenses i wanted, and its a very good glass..
the 70-300 apparently isnt L-series glass, but is still a fabulous lens.
thanks for the information. i'll take that into account.

Re: official photography thread
This was taken for a photography class I had at Chabot College (yay area) I was taking pics of textures. I just got this DVD back from Costco having converted my negs to DVD. The year(s) was late 1980's to early 1990's
Minolta X-700 using Kodak T-Max 100 BW (I processed the film in class)

Re: official photography thread
Alright, I have a question...
I have the standard 18-55mm lens. But I have been looking around at lenses and keep ending up at this: Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Camera Lens...Besides the amazing price, the reviews suggest that it has excellent image quality and deserves to be in every photographers photo bag. But with my 18-55mm lens, I can basically adjust it to match the 50mm/ f1.8 lens.
So my question is; is the $90 price tag worth it, even though I already have a lens that I can adjust to match the 50mm/ f1.8 lens?
I'm sayin what else is there to do besides relax,
