Much of the sharpness you see here comes from the lighting conditions and a good exposure.
price doesn't matter, its who is holding the camera but yeah shooting with as much manual settings as possible definitely can bring out the best in the "lower end" cameras. im hopefully picking up a xsi or xti depends on that economic stimulus check 8)

i just got a new camera, these aren't that great but i'm just trying some things out.
let me know if you guys have any suggestions or anything.

so i like the first one but i think i need to move the focal point a little more to the right so that the stairs aren't so blurry, what do you guys think?

the other two were just playing with f-stops and stuff

Got the B&W developed... you guys were right, it handled the overexposure all right, and I fixed it for the non-skateboard shots. Weird thing, though, and I was discussing this with some folks in a film group on Flickr.. some of my shots had a weird color cast, or a cast of more than one color. For example:

It's so weird. Anyway, some of the shots of my board came out alright, so here's two, check out Flickr for more, if you would. Critiques are also appreciated if you're bored.

    Pete, nice shots!

That color cast is easily fixed Vertigo, just a simple click in Photoshop. It`s probably scanned as a color film at the store, strange things happens then...

I just developed my first roll of Kodak`s new version of T-Max 400 and it looks like a winner to me, here`s a few snaps from the test roll(I always photograph a mailbox shooting a new film )

Camera: Bronica ETRs, 75mm and 150mm lenses.

Blix: Yea, I know, I did that with one, but the rest were ok. It happened to me a long time ago, too, when I actually got prints once. They were all green.

Nice shots!! I can't remember, is T-Max "true" B&W or C-41? Either way, it looks nice.

Not C-41 for shure, those images was developed using Kodak Xtol developer.
I develop all my films myself.

Awesome! I'm trying to get in a class to refresh my memory on hand developing.. I'd love to do it myself. But then I have to figure out how to buy a film scanner, hehe. Either way, hopefully I can get into a class in the fall and get back in a darkroom. Until then, this is what I've got.

I only have an Olympus 820 P&S, and although it's a nice P&S, it's still a P&S, so these are the best i could do...

and are DSLR's worth the money?

Yes, if you learn to put the creative possibilities you gain with a DSLR into good use, it`s worth it for sure.

Developed some HP5 today for the first time in over 2 years. Loaded the tanks in a dark bag and did the processing in the back garden. I'd show you some snaps, but I don't have a film scanner - or dark room for that matter. Damn, I've got all these negs and no way of looking at them haha

and btw VertigoJ color casts are the result of c41 black and white processing. The machines which are used to print and develop c41 film is obviously calibrated for color (because that's what c41 processing is) so they kind of have a freak out when they try to print and scan the negs. If you scan them yourself you'll find they're ok, but those casts are just natural with that type of film.

Yea, I've discovered. I gotta send it off than, like you, I am scanner-less, haha. I hopefully got one or two good shots today at PA outlaw, but chances are they are all blurry We'll see!

StingrayHH, I love the electric guitar picture. Nice colors.

You said "the best I can do" sound like a bad thing.

Hand Developing = Take film out of cartridge and thread onto roll in dark bag and place in tank. Follow chemical instructions. Rinse and hang to dry. You don't really need a class to do darkroom. Burning and dodging with an enlarger and advance techniques can all be done with any basic darkroom book. Save a lot of time and use the money you would have spent on a class to do your art (unless you're trying to meet chicks there). Blix and Wells can answer your questions as well as the prof.

Nice pics, Bob. It's not a college class, it's much cheaper, hehe. And yea, not trying to meet chicks, being one is enough for me.

Anyway, sweet shots!! People are a hard subject for me, but you do people pictures very nicely!!

(Please excuse my crappy writing soooo tired... going to bed now...)
