This is a family forum, language like that isn't appropriate.
Billings, have a word with the lady
im not disputing anything. and i dont owe you anything. you owe quite a few people apologies for downing their liking b&w photos with a splash of colour a few pages back. so have at it....
i asked what camera was used. i didnt ask you a damn thing. you always pipe up with an unnecessarily rude comment. always.
new rule of thumb for everyone - selective color DOES NOT make a photograph 'arty'.
isn't art what one makes of it? merely an opinion?
But this is the problem with the 'art world'. If you don't get it, it means nothing.
then you obviously don't get why those people used selective colouring. just because you don't get it.... doesn't mean it isn't art.
not selective color. sorry.
you seem to contradict yourself here with this one... shall i keep going?
I refer you back to the picture Wells linked to. I don't think you're quite getting this
and maybe you just dont get why the person did the selective colouring that they did. hmmm?
and since your last comment was "the fish has talent".... enough said.
"low-rez" isn't what you mean, the words you're looking for are "out of focus".
out of focus or not... who are you to tell him that isnt how its supposed to look. i kinda like the concept of his picture. its different.
im not going to deny that you have some talent, but your attitude towards other people's work is for ####.
if you dont have anything nice to say.. stfu.

Re: official photography thread
You're a fan of selective color I take it.
There is good technique and there is bad technique.
There are good ways to use a technique and there are bad ways to use a technique.
Just because you're using the technique doesn't mean you're one of the people using it well.

Shane, I loved your pics. Keep up the awesome work!
BTW Lexx, if you didn't know, scroll down to the lower right of that Flickr image (or almost any digital Flickr image) and you can see the EXIF data. That shot was with a D40.

Re: official photography thread
Lexx rocks!
Any critiques. I tried touching up some old photographs in photoshop, and wondered what you guys think. Don't really know what I'm doing in there...I should really take a class.
I played with the curves, I upped the contrast using the USM and sharpened it using the USM. Also did a little dodging/ burning (don't know which one) to brighten the subject.

P.S. Yeah, I know there's a halo around him. I quickly did it using a large brush. Yeah his right leg is messed up...I dodged/burned it too much.
[K-Rimes] 6:24 pm: honestly, I don't really let anyone ride any of my set-ups... they're so personal... it's like someone boning your girlfriend for like... 30 seconds

Re: official photography thread
I am personally not a fan of so much post processing, but it is a good idea. It looks almost like an illustration. Take a little more time to get your brush sizes right and I think you would be fine.

Re: official photography thread
okay so i am deciding between getting a canon powershot G9
or a similarly priced dslr, my friends got the G9 and thinks that it's better
the main plus i see is it also shoots HD video
so if the picture quality is the same id go for that,
my question is will i really notice the difference between a cheap dslr
and the G9?

Everything around the Puunene Mill is brown.
Gotta admit that my color looks pretty weak compared to Alpha06.
Damn! I'm jealous. Is that film? DSLR? Photoshop? Magic?

Re: official photography thread
I don't usually like color and I may have posted this before; but this is the kind of color I like.

I'm not sure if you've 'gone too far' with the editing but I think what you've done at least stands out. Curves is the first place anyone should turn when editing a photo, making a nice S curve can boost drab shadows and liven highlights. Maybe you sharpened a bit too much but in my opinion it worked this time.

alphao6 was shooting on digital for sure, all you've got to do is just moved the curves a little to bring out the color, highlights and shadows. Sometimes drab color works though, I love the composition of your second picture bob - you've got a good eye.

Thanks for the complement. I don't know what moving the curve entails having no Photoshop skills yet. I plan to grab a book at the library next week.
I agree that Monkeyhead's racer looked pretty good. Like out of a Scorcese movie....

No one reponded yet perhaps because nobody has hands-on experience with a G9? I'd recommend you go to one of the forums where there are lengthy reviews and thousands of top amateur and professionals willing to share their knowledge and opinions. Run a search in Google for G9 review and Stevesdigicams or DPreview (2 good forums) will come up for sure.
