Re: official photography thread
I wish my new polarizer would get here... the cat knocked my camera onto the floor. I had my wide angle on it as well, so when it landed it pulled the filter apart. Camera and lens seem to be fine though, it was a cheap polarizer anyway.

I love the pepper, crazy definition, I wish I had a pipe like that, it reminds me of a friend's backyard (he lived in a big old party house) that featured a half pipe, a zipline, MTB stunts, and a jib yard in the winter. Looks like a blast.

How deep do you want to go?
If it's for diving you're going to need housing, the olympus cameras are great for the beach but image quality isn't the best too be honest. They're built like tanks, but they do suffer a little. That said, if this really is just for the beach then the Olympus can not be matched by anything on the market.
This canon is a little 'old fashioned' compared to many of the compacts on the market, but the image quality stands and the underwater housings are reliable and well built. The downside is that it takes AA batteries.
The Fuji F50 is being heavily marketed at the diving community but the Fuji can be a little slow compared to most other compact cameras these days. There is a noticeable lag and doing simple things like deleting images can take longer than you'd expect.
This is the camera/underwater housing I would go for simply because the Panasonic Lumix range are awesome point and shoot compacts - very sharp lenses made by leica, very reliable (i work in a camera shop and we very rarely get them coming back under warranty) and they're very fashionable out of the water. For value the FS3 is great, for a little bit more zoom and a few more pixels the FS5 could be worth the extra $$$.

Re: official photography thread
ive been taking some sweet pictures,
the color in guanajauto is amazing
the only problem is i have an extreme suspicion that the film is in black and white, expired and that the camera leaves the shutter on for about 15 seconds whenever you take a picture

Re: official photography thread
If I buy a random flash from the pawnshop for like 10 bucks. Will it work on my D40?

It depends. If it (the flash) has an "auto" mode you can use it. No TTL communication between the camera and the flash of course, but you usually have a choice between 2-4 different apertures you can use, and the flash has a sensor that calulates the amount of light it needs to put out. You just use you camera in M and set the aperture at the same setting as the flash, and that puts you in the ball park. I use an old Nikon flash in "Auto" on my Canon DSLR a lot, works great.

Re: official photography thread
Ok cool. I'm gonna test it first.
They're also selling an old Pentax K1000 film camera for 30 bucks, should I snag it?
