Re: official photography thread
hey bpd,
haha wats that little baggie full of?? 8)
how about you just replace the face shield with a piece of plexiglass that has a superthin flexible screen embedded into. You could hook the sreen up to a live feed of a helmet cam thats mounted on a 360* pivot being controlled by a micro-computer in your leathers that also measures how fast you are going. Everyone could wear these super-suits and then it could display the location of other racers and their speed, even their tuck effectiveness measured by wind resistance.

Not a personal attack, but I despise it when people say that, it's only partially true.
If I gave vulgar a pinhole camera, or any camera with a fisheye lens, he wouldn't be able to do that, why? Not because he's a bad photographer (he isn't in any case), but because certain cameras do certain things.
I see what you're saying and there is something to be said about it...if that makes sense.
But I wasn't completely eliminating the possibility that he is a good photographer.

Not really. It`s actually very true. As long as we compare relevant technology.

Bringing in totally different technologies makes it another discussion, I could have understood it if he had posted a Holga image or something similar.
Fact is that if Vulgar had used a $50,000 digital back instead of his D40, we wouldn`t be able to tell the difference. On a larger print yes, but not on a 600 pixel wide image on a computer screen. That`s how good even the cheapest of dslrs has become.

It`s the internet and I don`t take your post as an attack. It`s all good.

Re: official photography thread
This is Nikoy, a 3-year old California Condor that was born in captivity, subsequently released to Baja California and then returned to an enclosure after the bird exhibited behavior likely to get it dead.
The bird's wingspan is over 6 feet.

Hey no worries man, I made the same statement earlier in this thread. I used a d40 with the kit lens for those shots.
Thanks Blix

Those are some nice pics CR
Also, about pinhole cameras, I got one for christmas. I want to start playing with it, but I was wondering if there were any mistakes most people make on their first try? I may just wind up finding out for myself, because that's how it's done mostly.

Film reciprocity failure is something you need to learn about, if you don`t know it already.
Basically with exposures longer than 1 second, you need to compensate for the reciprocity failure with a longer exposure than metered.
Usually for regular b&w-film you need to expose for 2 seconds when metered one(1x). if metered 10 seconds you need to expose for 40 seconds(2x), and metered for 100 seconds, you need to expose 600 seconds(3x).... You can check the film manufacturers website for specs for whatever films you plan to use. The best b&w-films for pinhole concerning reciprocity is Fujifilm Acros and Kodak T-Max 100, much less reciprocity failure than most other films.

Re: official photography thread
ugress those are some of the best in this thread for sure. The first one makes me ask "WTF?", trampolines (and underwater photographs shot in back garden pools) are always fun, and the landscape is beautiful. Spot on!
VulgarDisplayCFH, I kind of hate HDR - partly because it's so easy to do in photoshop (so easy it's got a preset auto create button) but partly because I've never made one seriously (other than messing around in PS when I was bored). The first photo of the truck is cool, and you're right about the second being cut off. I would say the truck works perfectly, but I'm still not a fan just because the technique is over used and rarely used well.
Here's another of my shots, boring as usual haha
