...I know, WTF right? I am fascinated by the old and simple, if not mundane. I am also fascinated by decay. In these hard times..it stands out to me more and more.

Will, that third one looks like a shot from the Blair Witch Project or something.
Nice job.

You would have to go to Nor-Cal, the San Joe Quin valley. Its hot there. You would melt.

Tinypete, they're pretty good!
Only thing is, try messing around with exposure.

biggest criticism is the framing, your shots are a little too centered. google the 'theory/rule of thirds'. like anything you don't 'have' to do it or do it all the time, but it will help you get a more engaging frame.
and getting to know your f-stop settings + shutter speeds will get you golden.
you've got a good eye though, for sure keep at it, you'll end up with some really great shots soon enough

Re: official photography thread
The depth of field ended up not coming out how I planned, but I actually kind of enjoy it this way.

I need to remember to watch that light over their heads next time they play there.
Gregory.. rangefinder focusing is kind of hard to explain, haha. Basically, when you look through your viewfinder, you will see a small box in the middle where two "images" of whatever you are looking at seem to overlap. When you wiggle the focus you notice they seem to move back and forth until they are lined up directly over top of one another. When that happens, the shot is in focus. I tried to make a diagram to explain:
Say this is your viewfinder (except for some reason you see things in black and white). The yellow box in the center is where you focus.Out of focus, the images in the center are overlapping but not aligned:

In focus, the images overlay correctly:

Hope this is helpful.

really like this shot and i think it's the light above his head that sets it off with the soft focus.

dude thanks a ton. that helped a lot. Seems pretty easy... at least easier than a diopter in some situations. I really appreciate the descriptive response. everyone rep vertigo J for me!
I won a Canonet GIII QL17 on Ebay and picked up a light sealing kit and an eveready case. I'm really excited to get this thing. This is just what i've been looking for: a small camera with manual options, and a good lens with low light capabilities that i can use wherever i go. Hopefully i'll get some pics up from it within the next week or 2 (depending on when it gets here)
Here's a nice surprise from my latest roll of film. wasn't sure if would come out or nice. I rather like the simplicity and my lucky framing (the bird was flying directly over my head)

Surprises are the best. Enjoy your Canon, it is definitely fun, that's for sure. Maybe I'll take mine out later....
