Photography
I'm pretty new to the scene of taking skating pictures. From what I have done I already know that I want to get good enough for it to be part of my professional life (along with writing, and skating whenevada####iwant). I have used both manual (35mm nikon SLR) and a digital cannon Powershot. I prefer the manual black and white more, but a lot of my shooting is done at night, and I hope to do some during the day. But the Nikon I use is my school's and is too difficult to use a flash with. I've got mad money now through saving up, and I have a 180ish dollar gift certificate to B&H, so I was wondering what camera I should get.
Any help would be win.
Thanks,
Mac Kelly.

Hi Mac Kelly,
I think that you should read some photography literature, and text. This will surely give you the backing you need to pursue a career in photography. Also about the gift card you should give that, to me. But seriously you should save up for a good Slr camera thats 8megapixels or more. I don't suggest this but,you can try to buy a used digital slr for b&h. they rate their conditions and everything. Otherwise continue to save up that cash you'll be happy in the end.

Re: Photography
If I were you I'd get a Canon Rebel xti with the 18-55mm kit lens and the 50mm f/1.8 canon lens.
Also, skate pictures at night don't really work very well without about $600-1000 worth of flash equipment. You're much much better off shooting on a bright cloudy day.

Re: Photography
From B&H, your only option below $180 is a Vivitar V3800N
It`s probably decent, but you probably can find something better off Craigs list for way less money.. Save the gift card for buying lots of good film or a couple of flashes. The Vivitar 285HV offers most bang for buck. Get a flash cord so you can use it off camera(very impotant, direct flash always looks bad) and a little flash trigger for the other flash, wich can come in handy for lighting the background ect... The possibilities are endless.

Re: Photography
If you're looking for a DSLR you can't go wrong with the Nikon D40 (or D40x) kit with the 18-55mm lens. I've had the D40X for about half a year now and have also bought a 55-200mm lens, and have been very happy with it. Of course the Canon suggestion above would be great as well...I'd use either one.
There are still lots of other options out there, though, so look around and find what's best for you.

Re: Photography
Okay, so I have about 3-4 hundred dollars without the gift certificate, and the certificate is 100. So does that change your minds?
I was thinking maybe the rebel, and a flash.
