Hey, so I'm located in Lakewood, near 6th and Union. There's some pretty good cruising hills around, and Red Rocks is just up the word, along with the C470 frontage road, Dinosaur Ridge, that new Solterra parade of homes place is fun, too.
My real point, however, was to see if anyone here is in the area? If so, let's talk. Where do you like to ride? What time do you find best for low-traffic?
Yeah, I like Lakewood quite a bit. It's in the middle of everything.
What do you guys think about the frontage road alongside of I-70? I haven't tried it yet, but it seems like a pretty decent ride to me, though I don't remembe the condition of the pavement myself.
Depends on where you started and what time of year/day this was gonna happen. Could work. There's a lot of neighborhoods off of I-70 headed up towards the ski resorts that have paved runs and look pretty nice.
Yeah, time of year is a big player. Snow probably doesn't bode too well for us, heh. There's a lot of neihborhoods that just like loop around the mountains up in Evergreen/I-70 area. Conifer has some pretty good runs, too, down pleasent park to Deer Creek, Foxton, Conifer Mountain.
Are there a good number of riders that you know here? I just know my group of friends, but no one else really. We should get a big ass gang going sometime
I know 0 other people who longboard in Lakewood. Even the people at the board room seem less than enthused with it.
i live right behind that shop. went in there to see what kind of boards/trucks they had and the guy tried to convince me that a his vanguard with RII 180 was an awesome dh board. i walked in with my hellcat.
That shop is kind of a bummer. The guy who is always working there is pretty cool, but he seems kind of like an old-burnt out hippy (I mean no offense, kind of). they don't really have a good selection of anything, but it's kind of nice to have new bushings/bearings right there.
But as for I-70, I was more thinking from Genesee down to morrisson, but like I said I haven't actually looked at that road in like, a long time. I just kind of zone out on I-70, it's always a long drive...
I've seen some other longboarders in the area, but I don't know them. I think they're all highschool kids just commuting to school, but not much for actually boarding.
The board room owner is a GREAT guy who's been riding around forever (since well before I was born). They were the first to stock NS gear, and they're a great place for shortboard skating or snowboards. Longboard wise they're lacking.

I feel kind of bad now, heh. I don't know the guy personally, so I can't really speak to his character, but he DOES seem a little burnt out. I can't speak to how good they are for everything else, either, because I only longboard.
In any case: Alameda from Green mountain all the way down in the middle of the night.
wasn't saying that they were bad, just not very knowledgable about longboards. they're very cool guys. i was just in there yesterday to get some grip and they just got in a NS dropthrough and they let me test in out in the parking lot. felt smooth with a nice, snappy flex to it at my 165 lbs. seems like a nice high speed carver if anyones interested in it.
