A (sort of) quick question on rep
I've searched but haven't found a definite answer.
If you rep a person while under 100 posts, you give them neutral rep. If you rep a person while you yourself are in the red, you give them neutral rep. But once you meet the alloted requirements of 100 posts and 10 positive rep points (I think?), does the rep come into effect in any way?
Rep has never been an major issue for me. I can still usually make deals in the classifieds just fine, people will read my posts regardless, etc. But it really irritates me when I can't rep someone for helping me. I know it's my fault for being in the red. I cannot blame anyone else but myself (quite a bit of my red is from stupid or pointless posts). I won't let myself do it. All I can do is learn and grow, of course. But the one thing I do wonder about is, when I crawl back into the green, can rep I've given do anything?
Until I do reach that point though, I will continue to speak my mind and try to defend my opinions in a respectful and fashionable manner. Take this as a preemptive apology to anyone I might get in a debate with. I care about helping those who help me and giving back to the community by giving advice when I can. I would like to rep you for offering suggestions on my setup or for making me laugh (humor is, not surprisingly, one of the largest mediums of reputation on the fish).
but
That only comes second to saying what you really think. Opinions, and sometimes even flaws, are the only things that gives us individuality and I'll be damned if I let my virtual dick get in the way of telling you that your ASCII rendition of John Ashcroft, does, in fact, not look like John Ashcroft. I believe that this principle is common knowledge and that most people here abide by it; however, anyone that cares more about those damned bars than actually making Silverfish an accurate, collaborative site of multi-faceted but friendly discussion should realize that conflicting ideas are necessary for a community to properly develop before they continue to use rep.
Phew. That really did get off topic, I apologize. If you feel tl;dr is appropriate then I have no qualms with your decision. Anyway, back to the original question. Does neutral rep come into effect when you 'cross the border', so to speak?
