    Default New subtopic idea

Since disciplines from slalom to sliding are represented, how about something for the cruisers and long distance pumpers and pushers? It may eliminate some of the clutter on the general discussion area. Additionally, it may be necessary to make a separate topic entitled, "What board should I get?" since no one seems to read the stickies at the top of the Q&A board.

pumping yes, but long distance pushing, and crusing are not disciplines IMO.

What the **** would you say in such a subtopic?
"Hey I skated for 20miles today at a fairly regular pace"
    "Awesome dude! RIP IT UP!"

    Just curious.

What kind of code is that?

Not that I would ever use it or anything.

    Just curious.

    Default pumping as subtopic

Its cool to see some interest in a pumping subtopic forum, but I can understand why, at least for now, the mods wouldn't want to start creating a bunch of sub-forums that have low to moderate interest. The ncdsa 'pumping' forum is where we attempt to capture a lot of whats going on with LDP but I completely agree that their navigation bites, bad. After a week or so of chatter the stuff just "goes away" in that there is no concept of "thread", just a search function if you know what keywords you're after. Basically it provides an ongoing chat-type forum but the 'fish is a lot better at turning the information into more of a library you can come back to later.

Long distance boarding will continue to grow -- and I really don't expect the growth to come from the 'hardcore' traditional skate world thats mainly into gravity-based adrenalin. I expect to keep seeing more interest and cross-over from those that are already hardcore into some other endurance sport like biking -- they're already used to travelling 30--60 miles in one day on a bike, so doing 10-30 miles a day on a skateboard is far more 'logical' because they already have the distance mindset. Its just like people who choose to ride a bike only to the store but would never think of pushing to go for 40 miles or more in a single ride. Most of those I skateboard distance with either ran track in school or were into swimming, just anything where you gotta get your head into it and stay with it for a half hour or more.

So when is a subtopic appropriate for distance pumping? Maybe when the general longboarding forum starts showing an large percentage of posts about distance, then the mods may consider a subtopic? Also, I think the original intent of 'pumping' as topic doesn't need to focus on distance, it can be all kinds of pumping technique in the short term, sprint, slalom, etc., but I personally find the most interesting discoveries in pursuing efficiencies over distance.

Since this is an old thread I was just wondering when the "Longboard Cruisers, Carving, Commuting and Boardwalking" forum was added. It's not an LDP only forum, but most of the LDP topics seem to go there or in "General Longboarding" or "Resources & Q/A" and I usually just use the search forum anyway. I guess I'm just the type of geek that Gimp Skool refers to in his above post. There is a great wealth of info on the pavedwave site, but it's unfortunate that the forum is rarely used.
