    Default need shoulder dislocation stories

I see a number of shoulder dislocations mentioned in hall of meat. Catching the hand on something while sliding and hard crashes seem to be two common themes. Please post any dislocation stories you know of so we can better understand how this happens while skating. The idea would be to develop some behavior guidelines to avoid it.

Hard akward, off balance impacts at a generally low speed. (Little horizontal force, no "sliding" out of the hands per se)

This can be caused by having no slide gloves, or landing straight down on the glove with little opportunity to slide out the hand in order to lessen impact force.

It really is just any fall that pushes your arm back in a "throwing" position.
This is Silverfish, take it with a grain of salt. It's fun to come back to at the end of the day, but nothing beats the real deal. Make your own judgments and form your own opinions. Remember whose lens you're looking through!

Try not to land pushup, but to land on your knees and hands. Helps a #### ton!

well a couple years ago i was bombing a huge ####### hill, and when i made this hairpin there was a large selection of rocks and debrie in the road. fell and hit the assfault straight forward onto my face and shoulder. hear a lound pop, thought it was just me hitting the ground, wich it was, but it was also my shoulder poping out and fracturing my colar bone.

An old man rolled through a stop sign and proceeded to take a nap in the middle of the road( really he's just extremely senile and forgot how to drive for a second?!). Anyway, he stopped just out if my vision through a blind sweeper. I come through the turn at a gpsed 34.9 mph and tboned a minivan.

I dislocated my shoulder out the back as compared to the front wich is apparently harder to get back in or something. I spent 8 hours at the hospital. First attempt to relocate I was given 2ml of mystery liquid. The result was I couldn't feel my soul. No good. So the waited a while and tried again. This time they gave me 12ml of mystery liquid and I was faced for about 30 minutes. I'm a big guy and I usually handle things pretty well med wise. But this time I threw up for two days on and off.

1 month in an immobilized and two months of physical therapy later I was good as new. That was the fifth and last time I can dislocate my shoulder without surgery

I used to get into a straight jacket at the precinct, have other officers bet that I couldn't escape, then dislocate my shoulder to squirm out of it. Then I'd knock it back into place by hitting it really hard against the file cabinet while my older and wiser african american partner with the hot daughter(who was diggin me) would just look at me and shake his head.
I've got to go. I'm in the middle of a movie.

Back in 2001, I was skating at a park that had a little 5'-6' keyhole bowl. Nobody was actually using it as a bowl, but as a launch ramp. Kids would line up at the other end of the park, push and roll in through the channel, and launch out the other end. Whenever there was a break in the action, I'd drop in and carve. While I was taking a run, a kid rolled in and slammed right into me, knocking me sideways off my board, and I landed with my left arm angled back behind me, popping my shoulder out. I managed to get it back in immediately, but it hurt like hell. While I'm doing that, the kid is yelling at me "That's not what this is for!" Took about 3 years to get back full mobility without any pain...

man i dislocate my shoulder even if i look at it wrong. I've dislocated my shoulder many times skating and many times in general. The most fail ways i have dislocated my shoulder would probably be the when i kicked my back wheel and fell in front of a group of people or the time where i was stand up sliding my dh race and highsided in front of a group of people.

Last time I dislocated my shoulder had nothing to do with skating... I was practicing Brazilian jiu-jitsu with my friend Adam and he had me in an armbar but instead of tapping I figured it'd be a better idea to stand up and slam his ass on the mat. It wasn't.....

Ok, so don't slide across broken pavement, manhole covers or catch something sticky under you puck. Don't fall down on an outstretched arm. Don't hit stuff at 30. Don't do the whole host of other stupid sports that pull the arm out of the socket.

In kayaking, you want to keep your arms bent, and keep you hands low and in a "box" in front of your torso. Rotate the torso around rather than reaching back.
