    Default Check Out My X-RAYS!

Bailed at moderate speed taking a big left turn... I'd only been boarding about a month or two before this. I broke both sides of my ankle and ripped the tendon in front, which seems like a pretty common injury among longboarders. I'm only just healing and I'll be off crutches on May 21st... but probably still not skating for a while after that. It's been three months of my board being lonely and it sucks. Anyway, onto the pictures:

If anybody's had one of these injuries, how long did it take till you were back on your board?

Weirdly enough it didn't hurt at all when it happened... Even when I was in the ambulance and staring down at my ankle snapped to the right, it just didn't faze me at all. It really sucked after surgery, I was on serious morphine for three days and then codeine pills for a couple weeks after that. It's not the pain but the discomfort of lying in the hospital bed and shitting in a pan and not having the stomach to eat. I can tell you it's sure awesome to be able to walk soon, but watching my friends longboard is the most painful part. Thanks for the support guys

Heal fast!! But more importantly heal well. I'd say your next follow up visit will give you the time frame you want to know.. A similar injury held me back 6 months before I was mended *And I was a teen then) People tend to mend from injuries at different rates.. diet and genetics play a role in healing.

i fell and broke my ankle and my xrays are almost exactly the same as yours. two plates, 12 screws. weirdly enough mine didnt hurt when i did it either, i think i was in shock or something? the biggest problem for me after i got my cast off was how stiff my ankle was, not pain. i broke mine in august and it took about 6 months until i felt that i had a good range of motion back, i was bummed because i had to miss snowboarding season, but that was 2 years ago and everything is for the most part back to normal.

basically dislocated my distal ulna in my right wrist and tore my tendon and cartilage. had the rods in me for 6 weeks. actually have a video of my doctor pulling them out but might just be abit too gory to show it here. took me another month or so of physio to gain full use of my right hand.

still could just do some cruising around my board but i did fall off a fewtimes and landed on my cast

sorry about your ankle man...get better soon! I'd die not being able to board for so long

    Heal up bro!

I have 2 pins in my right hand. Had 3, but the third was to hold the bone straight while it healed...they pulled it out eventually.

Guitarchick, those rods are hardcore! Those pics are rad! I wanna see the video.

I've posted my x-ray image before, but it fits with this topic. We liked the image so much, we used it as the cover of a mountainboarding DVD. The 12 screws and 2 straps are still in my leg. Its a constant reminder of what I've been through. The doctors also did a bone graft, because the break occured at a screw that had previously been installed, as the results of a knee dislocation injury.

Owwch, here's mine. 2 1/2 months. Torn tendons and ligaments, fractured fibula and dislocated foot. Worst pain in the world but I didn't feel it very much after 5 minutes then the pain came back strrrong. Was on morphine and percasets.

That's cool that you actually know exactly what it is. I'm going to go google that now.
