    Default Giro, Bell, or SiXSiXOne?

Hello Silverfishers. I think its about time that I get a safe helmet. Right now I am riding with a bell influx mountain bike helmet and I feel like if I crash that HARD eps foam is just going to f*** me up. I want a full face, and I have been looking at a few different ones. The main helmets I have considered are the Giro Remedy, the Bell Drop, the Bell Bellistic and the SixSixOne Evoloution, and the 661 Comp. I know that that is a wide ass field of choice, but I want to consider everything. I am right now leaning twords the 661 Comp, but I don't know how safe that helmet is. Please voice your info.

P.S. If anyone could give me some good brands of leathers to look at that would be 8)

Well, all of the fullfaces you've listed have hard EPS foam in them and that is the stuff that will save you in a crash. I use a 661 full comp and i like it. A bit funny looking but compared to other fullfaces its very low profile. The giro remedy IME is just a bit too bulky. For leathers look for fieldsheer, dainese, teknic and agv.

Thanks Guys. I ruled out the Remedy and the Evoloution. Which do you guys prefer of the 661 Comp, the Bellistic or the Drop? Why?

Also I don't have over 150 to drop on leathers. Alot of the Ebay ones have kneepads are those bad?

I have a drop and a good friend of mine has a comp. To be honest, my drop blows it away in just about everything. Soooo much more comfortable, feels a lot more solid, amazing field of vision, extremely light, and its soooo good looking.

I have a 661 full comp, there is a detailed thread here in the safety forum about it, ive landed on my head with it at abotu 35 and came out fine (my head anyways). It suffered some scratches but is still usable. Ill get the giro remedy once I need to replace this one, I dont think its a bulky helmet. If you are going between the drop and the 661, Id get the drop.

The knee pads your talking abotu are probably knee sliders. Moto riders use them to velcro plastic to drag in turning on there bikes, they are not necassary for you but the leathers should also have some built in knee pads as well. if they dont, dont get them. GL finding leathers for 150 dollars, but they are out there.

I've been debating between this helmet and a drop myself. Thought I would post it to give you another option.

I can't find a listing for the weight anywhere, and it has no crash replacement policy that I'm aware of. The Drop on the other hand has a CRP. I believe you pay $15 to get a brand new helmet if your in a crash with it. Take my words regarding the CRP with a grain of salt though.

Also, you can get leather/textile 1pc suits on ebay for $150 shipped. I would NOT recommend getting this type of suit though. There are full leather suits available on ebay for $200 shipped. Great option for a first suit.

It depends on what you want. If you want low profile then the full comp is the way to go. The drop is a bit bulkier and the chin sticks out quite a bit from what my friend who used to have one told me.

Also keep in mind that all else being equal (as far as meeting certification standards), the helmet that FITS you best is the safest...

I say 661 or Bell Drop

I have the 661, and actually I, right this minute, just got another one... haha! Love it because its light and its got a low profile compared to the others. reason I got another is that I crashed into the side of a parked Van last Sunday and basically headbutted it at about 20mph (30kph)! The van's side had a large dent... and the forehead of my helmet, well I dunno... it looks fine i guess, but I bought a new one just as well... but the fact is i came out ok, whilst the Van looked pretty bad... i just have sore neck from the whiplash.
    I enjoy going down...

I had one of those... I ride a Bell Drop now. Got tired of stiff necks after 5 hour skate seshes... ah, back when I used to have those weekly
They're almost the size of a Charly, waaay safer, excellent tuckvision, just as light as a Charly (both w/ faceshield) or extremely close to it, and comfy as hell.
Bell Drop... it's worth the $130 though there are plenty of places to get it for less.

leathers: put up an ad here, check ebay, craigslist. i like the pair of leathers I have with kneecaps/pucks on them as they've really helped and held up in crashes. unfortunately I don't ride that pair much because they're perforated. that, i would advise against.

Would the Drop be a safer helmet that the full comp? I am down to those two. Also how much farther does the chin gaurd come out on the drop then on the Comp? Would it be safe to say that it is easier to make a visor for the full comp? Also which is more comfortable?

I have to disagree. My drop is much sleeker looking and low profile then my friends comp. I've never noticed the chin, i'll check it.

I'll throw some pics up if you like.

And the drop, in my opinion, is heads and shoulders over the comp in comfortability. The comp to me feels like a half shell with a chin guard

i use a giro remedy, great, comfortable, lightweight tank of a helmet, although it is kind of bulky (just wide kind of... idk how to explain it).

my friend has a 661 full comp, great helmet, light, safe, low profile.
