Anyone ever experienced grass rash?

So, Over by my house, there's these 2 steep, short hills. One right behind the other, and I decide to try them out, and on my way down the second one, I noticed there's a dead end and there's no way I can stop in time and luckily there was grass on the left side of the road.
...I dive into the grass at about 25 mph and end up scraping the whole left side of my arm, I checked for rocks and there was nothing.
I've never heard of grass scraping people.
Anybody have an explanation?
Or am I just being a noob?

were you wearing long sleeves? Cause ive crashed with long sleeves before, and the shirt got pushed up which tore my skin like a cheese grater.

I've had plenty of cuts and scrapes from the grass in soccer, it's normal.

Yup, veered into wet grass on my road bike once to avoid a car that pulled out in front of me. I was doing near 30 at the time I went down and slid for quite a while. Ended up with a nice rash on both my arm and leg

Yea, it happens. Not only do you have to be careful of poison ivy and pricker bushes, but the grass will get ya too. Make sure youre wearing your helmet, too

what is underneath grass...? uneven hard, rooted dirt. plus grass isnt smooth. it is micro barbed. thats why it sticks in animals throats.

some places near my area have smooth kerb transitions which you can ride up if you hit them at an angle.
