I can't say whither they did it intentionally or not at all. In the area they were the only people who were not happy about what was going on.(Others were really nice to us there.)

This is very sad if that is what happened. It is a shame when people think that if you are doing something they feel is wrong, it justifies them to risk your life. I've seen rednecks here run little kids skating off the road while blaring the horn and yelling out the window, even when there is plenty of room on the road. Bad on them

Re: My worst injury ever. warning: semi graphic images
At the 2007 Wiggle War we had a douche in a white pickup truck drive around the road closed barricades at the bottom and gun it up the hill. Fortunately there wasn't a skater coming down at the time. We yelled and hollered at him and he yelled and hollered back. A little while later the police came just to check up and see how things were going (we had a road closure permit). We told the cop about the guy and described the truck. The cop knew exactly who it was and were he lived (right in the same area). He said he's in trouble for one thing or another on a regular basis. He got back in his cruiser and went to "have a talk with him". And then he came back and sat at the bottom with his radar gun on us so we could see how fast we were going.
See? Not all cops are bad.

was this an outlaw race?
shouldnt the road been closed off?

Re: My worst injury ever. warning: semi graphic images
well, chip if you werent so fast this might not have happened. You were so far out in front of our heat and we all got to the finish and everyone was just like where the **** is chip. I saw the truck backing up the street when I came around the corner, but had no idea what had happened. You are a great skater and I am glad you are ok, get well soon so you can go back to kicking our asses.

Re: My worst injury ever. warning: semi graphic images
As Tad and Chase have said, the driver was not driving up the road with ill intent (as far as I know), he/she was just leaving their house and happened to be in poor position for my cornering. They were not driving up the hill recklessly and although they were not exactly happy with skaters invading their roads, I do not believe they were out for blood. However, if the two of us were to swap positions (them in the hospital, myself in the car), I would definitely go visit them and see how they are getting along. Apparently they weren't concerned much for my recovery, but whatever.
Chase, sorry, I'll stink-tuck the whole hill next time, maybe you guys will keep up with me then =P.. I was kind of curious why I couldn't see anyone when I looked back behind me, did someone fall?
Nicthekid: yes, it was an outlaw, but as far as outlaws go it was easily one of the most organized races out there. Hay bails, spotters, radios, the whole nine yards. This truck just managed to sneak out between two of the radioers/corners and give me a good ol' lickin'.
Thank you all for your support, you don't appreciate threads like this enough until it happens to you, and then the kind words from skaters the world over really do hit home and make you feel a little less alienated. Now I just can't wait to get back on my board and re-earn my gnar-bars...

Get well soon man! Couldn't imagine what else could've happened if you impacted your head or anything. Ragdolled with helmet off? Too soon. Seems you got lots more riding to do!

Re: My worst injury ever. warning: semi graphic images
Wow well its good you didnt hit that truck going any faster. Its accidents like that, that really make me worry about head injuries, severe back injuries, etc. Surprised you remembered heading towards the truck. I had amnesia of the moments before and after my concussion. What really worries me is your treatment, hope you have some good insurance dude, youll need it with all that care your getting.

Re: My worst injury ever. warning: semi graphic images
yea the silver lining of concussions. You don't remember the pain your body went through to get a concussion. I had a fall a couple weeks ago (no lid) and got pretty scraped up but hit my head and blacked out for like 30 seconds. woke up and had 3 kiloliters of adrenaline so I didn't feel the scrapes. by the time was able to feel them it was after a good nites sleep. they had by then scabbed over and I was good to go.

Re: My worst injury ever. warning: semi graphic images
thought i'd update you all on my condition and the MIRACLE OF INSURANCE.
as you all know, 4 days in a hospital + surgery = a lot of money. A LOT OF MONEY. i think my bills have totaled about $45k USD so far, and they keep trickling in. One anesthesiologist billed us for $1400 alone. $1400 for staring at me for four hours? Cmon, I know your malpractice insurance is through the roof, but $350 an hour is RIDICULOUS.
anyway.. because it was an accident involving a car and my parents are smart and have Personal Injury Protection (PIP), my car insurance as well as the person driving the car that I hit/hit me ends up covering my medical bills. In the end, not all of it is covered by health and car insurance because Oregon applies the insurance backwards (car insurance first, then health). If you know anything about insurance companies, PIP covers a set amount of money while most health insurance companies cover a percentage of the total. Ideally, you would take the percentage of the total and then apply PIP to whatever is left, but Oregon decided that it would be better to apply PIP first and then do the percentage of whatever is left, leaving me with some bills still. Regardless, it covers enough that it's not a huge amount of money for my family.
What REALLY makes me happy about insurance, though, is the loss of wages reimbursement I was just informed I am getting. For not being able to work from 7/12 to 8/29 (don't ask me where they came up with those dates, considering the accident occurred on 6/28 ), I have received a check for $1400. I was expecting something like $200 because I haven't had a job since December, but $1400 put a lot bigger smile on my face.
Enough about the insurance.. It's been almost 10 weeks now and I'm dying to ride a skateboard again. My leg is healing slowly. I use a cane to walk around (crutches sucked balls) and I have difficulty going up and down stairs, but that's why they invented elevators. I've been in PT for 4 weeks and it has drastically improved my leg function. The bone isn't quite connected again yet, but it's getting there and all that's really left to do is rebuild the muscles. I'd show you a picture of the difference in the size of my thighs, but I don't have a good camera. All you need to know is my left thigh was significantly larger than my right prior to the accident and is now significantly smaller with absolutely no muscle definition whatsoever.
If there's anything I learned from these last 10 weeks, it's that I cannot take anything for granted. I used to see people in wheelchairs and whatnot and just say "sucks for them." Now that my mobility has been severely compromised I realize how f*cking amazing it is to have two fully functioning legs. You don't know what you've got until you've lost it.
My message to you all: be careful. Seriously, you might want to cut to the inside lane of that corner coming up, but unless you are 100% CERTAIN there is NO car or anything else in your way, DO NOT CROSS THE LINES. I'm all for going crazy and pushing the limits and really putting yourself out there, but this accident really taught me that no matter how in control you think you are, sh*t can go down and you will have absolutely no say in it. If you want to live to skate another day, don't cross into an oncoming lane unless there is absolutely no doubt in your mind that it is clear.
Enough ranting, here's some more recent xrays! I believe these were taken around 8/23 or so (about two weeks ago).

Re: My worst injury ever. warning: semi graphic images
One of the Texas baked crew broke both of his legs about two weeks ago (John). Similar to your one leg. Both of you guys are fortunate to be alive. I think there ought to be posts like this because there is a lot on the line when you are into serious DH. It ain't no joke. Financial distress or you could be lookin up at the bottom of some dasies.
I took out extra life insurance and medical.
Best wishes on your recovery.
