Default this forum has scared me into common sense

i've been longboarding for a couple years now without any pads or helmet or anything

i don't do anything too big and have never gone over about 30mph but i have fallen a couple times and have had some scrapes and bruises but nothing major

i just ordered a new board and wheels with the intent on learning to slide

reading all the threads on this site about the difficulties and inevitable falls from learning has scared me into buying, common sense, safety gear

in the last couple of days or so
i've purchased

loaded sliding gloves
Loaded Slide Gloves Version 4 New!

187 pro knee pads
187 Pro Knee Pads-BRAND NEW

bell faction helmet
BELL FACTION HELMET '07 at JensonUSA.com

about $126 for everything.
for daddiesboardshop
you can use 'tjoos' as a code to get $5 off $50 or more
free shipping over $25
so just make separate orders and get $5 off each order

pretty expensive but i'm betting the price of the helmet, pads, and gloves will be worth all the pain and suffering it'll prevent

good work. i realized i needed do sport a dome skating all the time last year. i was skating back to my dorm through the suburbs. someone had washer their car or something and the wather was draining along the intersection. i needed to make a turn onto tht street, and i was going to fast to make the proper speed adjustments in time before the turn... so bam, hydroplane. it was a left hand turn, and i skate goofy. it threw me on my back. luckily with so much g force, it also threw my backpack upwards, and i cracked my head down on my pelican hard computer case instead of the asphalt. i then new that if i wasnt so lucky, that i would have been unconscious, and in an ambulance.

kids... wear your domes, so you can ride as hard as you want.

You'll be very appreciative of that money you spent on your helmet the first time you have a nice slam and your head hits

received my helmet today and fell today.

was doing a slide, stopped too fast flew forward, landed on my kneepads and slide gloves then did a front flip hit my helmet and landed on my butt.

felt absolutely fine after =]

all that happened in like a second so i was just a little disoriented over what happened .

good thing you got the gear. I got the same helmet today - makes me look like a fireman/astronaut.

It's difficult in some areas. Home Depot, Lowes, Rona, etc.. I heard in Canada they don't give out samples as much, just little pamphlet things or a book full of samples that you have to sign out..

ALSO: I always wear my helmet unless it's 100% flat and I'm tired and sweaty.

I took a fall the first time I bombed a hill, came nowhere near my head but I immediately realized the importance of safety gear. Best way to learn a lesson! (I also learned that hand-pizza heals faster than knee-pizza)

i also slammed my head wearing a bell faction (paid a lot more than 10 for it though). in the back of the helmet the white shell had a huge crack and foam was broken right through in two places. my head felt absolutely fine afterwards, the helmet did its job for sure!

With the $7.00 you spend on velcro i'd suggest just getting a good set of slide pucks. I'd recommend Black Velvets, you can get them off Stoked Skateboards
